I'm a Skins fan, but I don't think there's any way they'll beat the patriots in the superbowl. Make it to the superbowl? Perhaps. Look what happened during their first meeting with the Patriots this year. That was the only game where they just plain lost. They were in the game for all their other losses (and several of them were blown 4th quarter leads.) Heck, they were even beating up on the Cowboys during the November game, only to have T.O. have 4 receiving touchdowns to beat them (28 to 23). And, even then, it came down to the last play of the game.
And, as mentioned, there's the back to back time outs that gave a game away to Buffalo - not that it should have come down to a 51 yard field goal which was suddenly moved forward to 36 yards thanks to the unsportsmanship conduct call for the t.o.'s. They outplayed the Bills all day.
For what it's worth, the 'Skins were probably the most under-rated team this season. NFC championship game is a real possibility for them.
Well there are quite a few things that the 'skins would need to do different.
First we would have to stop playing a constant soft-zone or playing man to man 30 yards off the line. To be able to keep the Pats receivers in check, you need a lot of bump and run coverage. I personally like the idea of a Cover 1 man coverage with whoever is playing FS (Reed Doughty mostly) as a deep QB spy.
Next we would need to, when not dropping back into coverage, make extensive use of the overload blitz to the right side of the Pats O-Line (Perhaps consider moving Andre Carter to that side for that particular game).
Offensively, we would have to rely on the running game first (More specifically the Redskins specialty of up-the-gut) and then instead of the short passing game (Asante Samuel loves to jump routes and has great instincts but Moss and Randle El should be faster) all the time, we would have to look towards Deep Slants/Posts, Over-the-middle passes to Cooley, and Deep Fly Routes.
Furthermore, we would have to pray that Jon Jansen, Carlos Rogers, Randy Thomas, Rocky McIntosh, and Mike Pucillo all get healthy for this one game because as good as the O-Line has been playing, they aren't as good as they were when all were present and healthy. Not only that we really need Rogers, Smoot, and Springs to cover Moss, Stallworth, and Welker to even have a shot (Lee Torrence and whoever is backup is would not be able to cut it).
On top of all of that we would need to pray for a miracle lol.
It would be neat to see them do that though!
