The Cowboys have traded a 3rd round pick to Houston for the rights to Drew Henson, and have signed him to a multi-year deal.

Just saw on ESPN.com

Houston essentially turned a 5th or 6th round pick(wherever they took Henson) into a 3rd this year. I'd say that's pretty good.

Otherwise they would have lost Henson for nothing.

Oh, I agree with you on that point. I thought it was a great move when they drafted him. I'm just surprised they didn't get more for him. Granted, he has been out of the game for quite a while.

The problem is that during his workout it became clear that he wouldn't be able to be fully effective for at least a year, which drove his value down a bit.

Eh, I thought he'd come off well in his workout. I wasn't following it that closely though so that explains things.

Everyone described him as very strong, but a bit rusty and off target.

Hmph. I was hoping Tim Couch would show up in Dallas. Wonder what'll happen now? That's all Couch needs is another possible QB controversy a couple years down the road.

Henson will prove to be a big bust. He's just not that talented as an NFL caliber QB.

I think this is a great move. The QB's they have are flawed, and the ones on the free agent market were largely older guys on the downside of their careers. Carter will start for another year, and then Henson will compete for the job next season. Hope Henson works out to be the QB everyone thinks he is. Way to go Cowboys.

By all his scouting reports, he would have been one of the first picks in the NFL draft had he opted for it. He has a cannon arm and pedigree from a big time school. What's not to like?

Not sure how you can say that - he was incredible in college. Had a great arm, laser accuracy, didn't make mistakes, and possesed outstanding mobility. Put up incredible numbers (better than his predecessor Tom Brady) at Michigan and led the team in clutch situations just as effectively. Only thing that could hold him back at this point is that he's been out of the game a while.

There are draft projections that had him above Big Ben and Phil Rivers despite having been away from the game for so long. That wouldn't happen if he wasn't the real deal.
