..and not because the Lambo got hit by another car, ran into another car, even got involved with another car, or even ran into a wall or something--but because it went over a SPEED bump too quickly

Luckily the guy's deductible was just $2500--not a bad investment :)

Gotta wonder what the premiums are for full coverage on one of those puppies.

$76k worth of damage from a speed bump? Sound fishy, how fast was your cousin going? Either way, pics :D.

Interesting. I had thought people who could afford to drive those cars carried their own insurance... ie... they stuck 300K in a bond, etc. I wonder what the premiums are on that car?

I remember one of the Car and Driver guys called his insurance agent to get a quote on a Ferrari. This was probably 10-15 years ago but he was quoted at $20K/year.

His cousin is the claims adjuster.
NOT the driver.

His cousin is the claims adjuster, not the owner.

$76k seems an ungodly amount even for an exotic for going over a speed bump...what damage did it have?

My brother lightly tapped the rear of a truck in his Porsche 996 and that was $15k though. (hood, two headlights, bumper, one fender, misc pieces). He had the factory aero kit so that made it about 50% higher in price I believe over a stock 996.

He didn't "lightly tap" at all if he had to replace the hood, bumper, and both headlights. That's more of a "moderate hit".

Yup. Once you involve the HOOD it's no longer a lightly tap. I had a "moderate hit" and I didnt have to replace the hood of my car... either that or you're telling me the 996 is made of paper.

I don't think it's that expensive. I know on $100k Mercedes it can be less than a Civic. I guarantee it's not $20k/yr for a supercar.

it was 5mph, it was a light tap. the truck's bumper was about even with the middle of his headlights, on a 996 that pushed the hood down.

It could have possibly been repaired, but that is not what he wanted.

It was enough to crack the bumper, bend the hood and fender and crack both headlights. Some of the damage may have been caused by the heavy truck rocking back onto his car when it slammed it's brakes.

Well - if you take a speed bump at 120mph - then yeah you could get major chassis damage on a lambo that could result in a $76k bill.

I could see replacing all those items in a 5mph tap. If a Porsche 996 lightly tapped the rear of my F-150 he would have a trailer hitch through the hood, both headlights broken and the bumper damaged. The car is so low the front end would go underneath my rear bumper.

You can continue to waste your time arguing with Alkemyst on his terminology for that accident or you can use your time more wisely, perhaps by removing dingleberries from your ass. Because he will not cede on anything once his mind is set and the thought has been posted. I'd just honestly rather see you do something more productive with your time. Dingleberries carry more importance than Alkemyst IMHO

What a fucktard. Perhaps this is because most here don't know WTF they are talking about and yet want to debate what you have personally experienced. Sort of like you having a birth control thread. The only reason I see for this is they themselves must be freaking lying about every post they make.

Lightly tapped is a subjective term...IMHO that is what this was considering it was an accident on the road, not bumping a car in a parking lot...

Anyway here is a good picture of the damage PIC

Much of the damage had to do with the vehicle being a freaking large ass truck...had it been a civic and not on top of the hood it would have been more minor.

Hmmm...I suppose that's plausible. If the truck's bumper had been even with his at 5 mph, it probably would have caused no damage, but since he slid under slightly...plus if the truck was braking too...I can see it.

I guess what would be a "light tap" for a higher vehicle would be more of a "moderate impact" for a Porsche.

the way the bumper and hood are separated is where the bumper of the truck came down and sort of wedged things out.

Tfinch2: it was bumper to bumper traffic the truck locked up hit brakes...witnesses couldn't figure out why, but that is not a crime really (driver said he thought something was in the road). The car behind my brother got nailed in the tail pretty bad and was about 1/4" from his rear bumper.

Rofflecopter.

Rofflecopter would have been the vehicle that took you to your vacation should the mods have seen that one post of yours ;).

I have one on a helipad at my estate.
