Modems are pretty much at the end of the road as far as development goes.

Barring some extraordinary discovery, I doubt manufacturers will be investing any development money towards future protocols. :(

Assuming you don't have access to cable modems/DSL in your area, your best recourse would be to start calling/writing your local phone & cable companies to push for broadband access in your area. You might also look into one of the new 2-way broadband satellite dish services on the horizon. :)

Good luck!

Seeing as how USRobotics hasn't provided Win2000 drivers (although Microsoft's drivers work fine), it's doubtful they'll go to the trouble of updating the firmware to V.92 either...

I have a USR 5686 with V.92. Remember that the modems on both ends must have it for it to function so so far I havent been able to test tesults.

Go to usrobotics.com web site and check there. They will tell you if you can upgrade and will give you the download free. Painless update. Seems I read they are going to upgrade entire flashible line to v.92 except for a few early models. Hope you dont have one of them.

gsaldivar is right on the money with that one.

You won't see much further development with modem speed...its pretty much a dead end technology.
Start making threatening phone calls to your phone company/cable provider till they give you broadband. lol j/k

writing letters is good though, if you write enough eventually they'll listen.

The reasons modems are at the end of their development is because each phone channel is digitized to 64,000bps.

I pity all the poor dialups who can't get broadband... that's what you get for living in the sticks! =)
