Couple XBox Live Questions

I really want to get XBox Live but I'm hunting for the old Starter Kits as the new ones are devilishly expensive. I have a couple questions though...

a) I found a Starter Kit that came with Whacked and MotoGP demo. I'm assuming this was the first version ($50) that was ever released (with the 12 month subscription)? With the 2nd version ($50) being the MechAssault bundle (also with a 12 month subscription) and the 3rd one ($70) only came with 2 months of service. Am I correct?

b) The starter kit that I found was returned I believe. The packaging seal was cut open. Can I still buy it and get the full 12 year subscription or has it been used already?

c) Is it true that if I don't like the headset, I can buy a cellphone headset and use that instead?

d) If I stumble upon the old Starter Kits, can I still use them or did Microsoft no longer allow the activation of the older kits?

Live Kit 3.0

Version 3.0 comes with the full version of Mechassault and 12 months, not 2. I believe you're thinking of how most new Live games now come with a 2 month free Live subscription card.

If that code was used then it will not work again, unless somehow they got it deactivated or something special by Microsoft. But I'm positive it will not work if it was activated once. (Check the packaging - the code is under a scratch off silver lining like scratch off lottery tickets - if it's scratched off DO NOT BUY IT)

Yes. It can use any headset + microphone combo that uses one stereo plug (the right size)

AFAIK you can. That's something only Microsoft would be able to answer for you. Check xbox.com and click on Live and call up their tech support.

No... They all include the first year's subscription.

There's a subscription number... If it's been registered, then you cannot use it.

Yes.

You can still use them.

Since no one pointed it out, there have been three 'versions' of the Live! starter kit.

v.1 was MotoGP Online
v.2 was Tetris Worlds Online
v.3 is MechAssault and is $20 more.

All three include one year of Xbox Live service.
