Couple stupid baseball questions...

Stuff I should probably know, but am not too sure about...playing MLB2004 and wondering about stats actually

How far must a pitcher go to be credited w/ the win if he is in the lead?

and...

When must a relief pitcher come in to get the save? If he starts the 9th, or if he's subbed in during the 9th?

I believe a starter needs 5 innings. I don't think it matters when the closer comes in, as long as the lead is 3 runs or less.

Whoever gets the last out gets the save, provided it's not the starter and the team in question wins Not sure about innings, poster above me might have it right. I know in the event of weather prematurely ending a game, it has to have gone 5 full innings to coung, and will go down as a final game at the score it was when the weather delay began.

A Relief Pitcher is in a Save Situation when upon entering the game with his club leading, he has the opportunity to be the finishing pitcher (and is not the winning pitcher of record at the time), and meets any one of the three following conditions:
he has a lead of no more than three runs and has the opportunity to pitch for at least one inning, or

he enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, at bat, or on deck; or

he pitches three or more innings regardless of the lead and the official scorer credits him with a save.

Exactly. Case and point, Why can't the Red Sox win the World Series?

hmm i've never heard of the 3 inning thing. So even if a team is ahead 15-0, if a pitcher comes in and works the 7th, 8th, and 9th he would get a save?

I think it is at the discretion of the official scorer.

i seriously doubt that with the example given the scorer would give that pitcher a save.
