lovin' the new MBP but i got a couple questions or suggestions what either you like to call it.

1.torrenting, what is the best app to use? i used utorrent in windows im assuming i can use the same torrent sites and just download it with a osx capable program?

2.whats the best way to connect the pro to my lcd screen? mono price links would be fine, it only has 1 hdmi port[being used]and vga out only. [my lcd model is LG 32lc2d]

3.is iwork worth it? im a student and will need microsoft office type applications.

1) Transmission is lightweight.
2) Monoprice has a mini-Displayport to HDMI adapter
3) Open office is a good alternative.

As a student I went with MS Office because I knew I would need Excel for some serious number crunching. I still ended up using an older version of Pages for word processing though.

1: Transmission, very lightweight, clean, simple interface (can give you more information though if you want). And yes, the same torrent sites will work, make sure you seed all those Linux Distros and public domain books though!

2: Pair this with this and you should be set. I had a similar setup for a while, works great. Otherwise, you can use this and not bother with HDMI.

3: I really like iWork, but frankly, if you must have Word compatibility, then you need to use Word. People don't like it when you send them PDFs (so easy to do on the Mac), and really, for the absolute best compatibility, use Windows Word. So, get a copy of 7 for $29 as a student, install it in Fusion or Parallels, and then install your student copy of Office on that. You can run it right beside OS X using Unity (Fusion) or Coherence (Parallels).

thx for all the replies appreciated. stu what would you do personally run vga and 3.5 audio or just grab the hdmi switch and dvi-hdmi cable???

Well, if you also want to run the audio with the HDMI then you will actually need this little item. Otherwise you are just getting video from the MiniDisplayPort.

1) Transmission - lightweight, fast, does the job
2) Mini Display Port to DVI adapter from Monoprice
3) No - Get OpenOffice
