Couple problems with Mass Effect

Does anyone else think that combat and cover system is utter crap in Mass Effect? Shooting requires no precision and is so unsatisfying, the cover system is clumsy and unintuitive. There is a standard set by games like Gears of War and R6 Vegas, Mass does not come close.

Yes, I know it's primarily and RPG, but previous Bioware games raised the bar in terms of DnD combat, Mass effect does no such thing for third person shooter combat.

And the graphics! this is suppose to be UE3?? Even on ultra high texture resolution, environments are so bland and uninteresting, I even noticed some occasional flat low res textures that are just plain ugly. They just slap on a bunch of annoying post-processing effects and call it "next-gen".

Well, for the most part, combat in ME is fairly simple. The best two weapons are the Assault Rifle and the Pistol once you get one with any accuracy. The Spectre AR is about the best weapon you can use in the game and in reality, don't need to use cover very much if you can funnel enemies.

The only really good places to use cover, and thus sniping, is ironically at the beginning of the game at eden prime. This is about the only place in the game that places enemies at a very long distance and forces you do either "storm" with a short range weapon or snipe from cover. This is especially true when you are getting on the tram. The only other place in the game that comes close is at the end when you are climbing the side of the citadel toward sovereign. Everywhere else in the game is in closed, and tightly pack rooms connect by hallways. As such, the best way to fight here, is to launch a grenade through a room and detonate it to "wake up" npcs. Then stand in the hallway and lay down AR fire as they bunch up to funnel into the hallway. So easy you don't even need squadmates in this game or biotics at all.

The only really challenging fight I had in the entire game was taking on Benezia. It's an open room she is in where she is in the center but you can't run at here because of railings. She's also basically invulnerable until you kill enough hencemen. She can also stand in the center tossing out biotic powers at you if you remain in line of sight while trying to deal with henchmen. Found out the best way to fight this is the moment it starts is to sprint to the right side of the room putting that piece of glass between you and Benezia. From there, pick off all the goons that spawn and then when her power is down so she's not invulnerable, then kill her.

Beyond a few encounters, the mechanics for combat in ME is very simple even on "insane" difficulty. For grins and giggles I beat the game on insane using no squad mates, biotics, or anything but a stupid pistol. Easy if done right.

But that can really be said about most games and combat systems. You find the "beloved patriot" in the combat system to make it trivial and that's that.

That's the trend these days.

I have to agree with ixelio..This game was just..how can I say this..unfulfiling..a waste of money and gameing time..agreed..it wasn't my cup of tea. Why do I keep buying these POS games..I am an FPS type of guy. If you want action and good gameplay..stay away from this one. If you like to hang around and chat, and be led by the nose here, then there..then this is the game for you.

ronach just described every RPG ever.

so if you like RPG's... get this game!

honestly... i can't in good faith tell people that. there's still a lot of technical issues with this game... i didn't experience ANY problems at first and thought everyone was over hyping the bugs in the game. but when you suddenly can't even OPEN the game you just paid $50 for... i think ranting and raving is justified.

if you want to play this on PC, do yourself a favor and wait until they release a patch.
