Couple of vista questions.

My default user on my computer is the administrator for the PC, however, I still find myself having to run a lot of my programs in admin mode (right click shortcut, run in admin mode) for them to work properly..

An example would be BF2. I have to launch it by right clicking the shortcut and launching as admin or when I get into a server it kicks me for inadequate O/S privileges. If I remember to right click the short cut and run as admin it works perfectly fine.

Is there a way to just run everything in admin mode by default? or for the rest of my time on vista am I going to have to right click each icon and choose that option?

Any other BF2 players here with the same issue, maybe you can help?

by UAC I am guessing you mean "User Access Control". This thing has been annoying the hell out of me.. how do I turn it off?

technet on uac

just remember that its one of vista's major security features and while it certainly has room for improvement (look at osx or ubuntu for a better version) it does have some benefits (unless you just blindly click it)

There's a way to do without disabling UAC or right-clicking it continuously. You've two options:

1. Go to the folder with the BF2 executable (the main .EXE), and right-click on it and select Properties. Then under Compatiblity tab, put a check mark on "Run this program as an administrator" in the Previlege level box. You shouldn't get any more UAC prompt or permission deinied errors when running it.

2. Alternatively, you can just right-click on the BF2 SHORTCUT and do the same steps.

This works for most programs. I had to do this for NOD32 v2.70.23 since it would fail with the updates with an access denied error (and no UAC prompt). Now it doesn't anymore.

I am the only one using my PC, so I dont have to worry about anyone doing anything retarted on it.

Thanks for the info.

You can turn off UAC by going to Control Panel > User Accounts > Turn User Access Control On or Off
