Couple of quick Questions

I received a dvd player for my pc for christmas. Should I buy a hardware dvd decoder? I have a radeon 8500le video card so i believe that does some decoding for the dvd playback. Should I be using powerDVD 4.0 or the ATI DVD 5.0? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You should not need a hardware decoder if you have a processor more than 400MHz.

I have had no experience with the ATi DVD player, but PowerDVD XP has been pretty good and I would recommend it.

power dvd is a great program although it seems to love to eat cpu cycles. I would recommend tring both and seeing which works best for you . I also agree that you should have no need for a DVD decoder card aslong as DMA is enabled on your DVD rom drive.

Thanks guys I appreciate the info. Is PowerDVD XP the same as PowerDVD 4.0? Last question i promise 🙂
