At work, I brought my GeForce MX440 SE to game on, an with an Athlon XP 2000 an 512mb of ram its having a difficult time running BF1942 on 800X600 medium graphics which seems utterly pathetic. Lying around my basement I have a AIW 7500 DDR an I was wondering if it's worth my while to pop this in the computer at work ? Would I see an improvement in performance or are both these cards pretty evenly matched? the mx440 SE supports DX 8 I believe but it only has SD RAM rather than DDR.

My second question pretains to the second rig in my sig. I have a Athlon XP 2200 with a gig of kingston and a ti4200 that I use in my room. The board is on it's way out with sound, ethernet, starts only when it wants, and now I believe AGP dying. (I'm looking for an NF7 to replace if you have one) but the card also artifacts from time to time. (I believe it's from playing with riva tuner and OC'ing it to high once). I was wondering what would be a significant $10-$20 upgrade for this. I don't plan on using this PC all the time as I mostly game on my other two systems and now I have an x2 3800 system I'm putting together anyway. Would a used 9500pro be a step up from my ti4200?

The AIW7500 should beat the MX440SE black & blue in games.

Boy, you game old school, don't you? :D Upgrading to an X2 3800...

Regarding the 9500pro versus Ti4200: Google is your friend. The 9500pro is a little better than the Ti4200. Neither of these will be worth anything for modern games.

Personally I'd look around for a used x800-series card or a 7600GT or something. A quick scan of eBay shows several x800 agp cards for $20-30, a x850 for $55 BIN and a lot of overpriced 7600GTs. You should also wander through the For Sale/For Trade forum here and see what's available, I have seen several 6800GT and such cards recently so you might get lucky.

I have an e6750 system with an 8800gt lol. These are just other computers for when my friends are over so we can lan. I also have alot of people in my house lol. I know for a fact a 9700pro would be a huge upgrade over the ti4200 because I have another system with a 9800pro. I know a 6800gt is great, but they seem too expensive to pair with an aging socket A platform for my tastes. I'm just looking for a minimal upgrade that will play cs:source (mostly cs:1.6) on a 19"crt that supports 1280X1024. I'm not even too concerned with cranking graphics because the computer I use in my room is mostly for Ragnarok Online and similar

dude....damn such old rigs, hmmm let me remember a few things

IIRC the GF440MX is a little slower than a Radeon 7500....but both are slower than the second comming...

As for the 9500 pro....well yes it is faster than a ti4200, and supports DX9 but once again, both are horribly slow by todays standards.

go for any X8x0, X1650, 6800 or 7x00 series cards as they are much faster and would probably do your old 2200XP a little more justice than dinosaur GF4's or R9500's would

^That list is solid. Look for any X800, any X1600, any X1650, any HD2600, any HD3650, any 6800, any 7600, 7300GT, and 6600GT cards. Although I would like to add that you'll be CPU-limited in some circumstances. I've played Battlefield 2 on an Athlon 1700+ with a 9600 Pro, and the framerate was horrible and unplayable. Once I overclocked it to 2400+ speed, the game became playable. And this was with a 9600 Pro, which is considerably slower than any of the cards I mentioned above.

If anything I'll look for the cheapest X800 I can find. I'm more of an ATi fanboy to be honest. This TI4200 works great for the casual gaming done on that pc. If i'm playing L4D, TF2 or Oblivion obviously I have my Core 2 setup but I like using the old Athlon system for HL2 (runs surprisingly well on med / high ) an BF1942 / Forgotten Hope.

If we are talking games like CS:S and BF1942 an mx440 should be enough provided you have enough CPU power.

I left an mx440 in an Athlon XP 2800+ machine I gave to someone and it could run CS:S (1280x1024) and BF1942 no problem. The mx440 was my friend's card and a long time ago he played Half Life 2 with an MX440+Athlon 2600+ and 512MB of ram I believe. My friend did some experimenting though, and the framerate in CS:S dropped SIGNIFICANTLY when he underclocked his 2600.

A ti4200 should be a considerable upgrade over the mx440, my first gaming comp was the mentioned Athlon XP 2800+ machine but with a ti4600 and it didn't have trouble with HL:2/CS:S/BF1942.

An mx440 ddr would no doubt be enough power, however mine is SD ram. I brought the AIW 7500 to work an it runs bf1942 like a champ. I don't have the internet at work so I can't play any steam games except blue shift, opposing force, and half life 1 which this 7500 rips through. Ended up being a huge 5 minute upgrade. The XP 2200 system continues to have more problems and I believe the 4200 and motherboard are dying quickly. If anybody has a used Radeon 8500, 9500 pro, or TI42/4400 please let me know as well as a used NF7 mobo
