i just got a notebook and i don't quite understand how the battery thing work. i got the 4 cell one. someone people say this can last 2.5-3 hours. is that true? also i read somewhere that this battery can only be charged 600 times or so. i don't understand that. does it mean after 600 times of charging, the battery will die? i'm planning to use this most of the time (like 4 hours) with the adapter plugged in. probably 1-2 hours usuage per day without charger plugged in. do i have to use up the battery before charging it? if i don't use it up, will it shorten the battery life? sorry for all the newbie questions. this is my first notebook.

From what I've read, the 4-cell battery will give you around 2 hours. Not sure about the number of charges, but the battery will not "die", but it will start to lose its ability to hold charge after a while, so you'll notice you'll get less hours per charge out of that battery as time goes. How long? Not too sure, guess a couple of years maybe?

I have a 700m with a 4 cell and a 8 cell battery. The 4 cell lasts me just about 2 hours while the 8 cell lasts 5 hours. This is with the Pentium M 1.6ghz running on Portable/Laptop power mode.

There's no need to completely discharge the battery before recharging. Li-ion batteries don't have any sort of memory that you need to worry about.
