Couple of questions on A7N8X

I made a slight goof in a cpu upgrade for this board. Instead of RTFM, I checked the specs online and, looking at the wrong version, I decided mine would accept a 400mhz cpu so I bought a 3000+ barton @ 400 mhz (2.1ghz) instead of the 333mhz (2.16ghz). I realized my mistake, that my mobo's max is 333mhz, when doing the install and was just happy that it ran but....

I check my system in Aida and it reports my cpu clocking at 1746mhz which makes sense (333/400) x 2.1ghz = 1748mhz. Seems like I'm answering my own question but I wanted to check with you folks. I'd actually get better performance from the XP3000+ 333mhz than with the 400mhz version with my current mobo - it would run at 2.16ghz, correct? If so, what are my chances of getting a decent deal on a return with NewEgg?

Second question, I just had a strange issue with this system. Restarted so I could go into BIOS and adjust my AGP, got stuck on the mobo screen (the big Asus add screen), wouldn't go to post or anything. Tried a few things before I cleared CMOS which worked.

I've never actually had to clear the CMOS and was just wondering if there may be some underlying problem with my system that would create such a problem. Was running just fine before I restarted, just locked up for no apparent reason. I do have a generic 350W psu (I'm going to upgrade it next weekend, promise) - could a psu somehow create a need to reset CMOS? Just wondering - if I come up with a reason to shell out $90 for a Seasonic, it's much easier if I can justify it to the wife ;)

Which revision of the motherboard do you have? (it should be silkscreened somewhere between the PCI slots)

If you've got a Rev2.0, you should have no problem using 200FSB. If you've got earlier (like 1.14 and stuff), then alls I can say is "Good Luck(tm)" :D You might be able to up it to around 180FSB, give or take, but that would probably be about it.

I'd trade you, but I've got a 2800+/333 and am using DDR2700 RAM to get a nice 1:1 timing (didn't pay extra money at the time to get the PC3200), and have no desire to change my RAM as well ... that and my heatsink (SwiftTech MCX462+) is a BEAST to get off and put back on ... :D

I had found another thread suggesting that but mine is 1.04, grrr. Oh well, have to let some time pass before I tell my wife that a new cpu is again "required", but I'll probably go the 64 route. Thx.
