Couple of questions.. newbie CPU temp and MB

I recently built an Athlon XP 2100+ system on a Chaintech 7VJL Apogee Deluxe MB.
I had some stability problems initially with the system, random reboots and BSOD. Usually during memory intensive operations, SiSandra ... 3dmark etc.
The problem seems to have gone away for the most part, since raising the vdimm voltage to 2.8.
The thing I am noticing now is some stability problems when using CPU intensive operations, using MBM5 in notice the cpu temp rising quickly when pushed.
The normal idle temp is 49c but I can watch it move past 55c very quickly when using the CPU.
I think my fist mistake was using the heat compound that came with the CPU, I was told to remove this stuff and use some Artic silver.
I also have 3 pathetic noname case fans which I will be replacing with Thermaltake A1357 Smart DC Case Fan II .
I am hoping this might solve the problems, Any advice on what I may be missing ?

Also if anyone out there is uing this same board. I am unable to activate the onboard game port, bios shows it as disabled and does not have an
enable setting. I looked over the board, and in the manual and no jumpers are shown to change this.
Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance

sounds like maybe your power supply is not up to snuff. that may be causing the reboots. but looking at your temps, it looks as if you are having heat probs. are you crashing at all because 55C is high? on my machine, i would crash at 55-56C.

the reboots sound like a lack of power prob though. what other things do you have within the system?

Thing have now gotten worse, random lockups, unable to get onboard lan to work. many windows problems and extremely slow operation.
Hard drive seems to be at a crawl somtimes, programs crash alot now. Or just stop doing anything.
And lucky for me wife thru out box MB came in..🙂
This computer has been having stability problems since I recieved the MB
I think its dying.
I put Arctic Silver on thecpu and temps been around 47c according to mbm5

Athlon 2100+
Chaintech 7vjl apogee deluxe mb
geforce 3 200ti
2 80x80 noname fans, 1 90x90 thermaltake from fan
was using onboard lan. now not working
Onboard audio being used
512 kingston pc2700 ram
PS is a turbolink 350w

If its is the motherboard, what recomendations do you have for a stable board for the 2100+ athlon.
thanks, as I write from my sons computer

Make sure you have you have all the latest drivers(esp mobo chipset). Not just the ones that came on the cd. Also by chance what OS are you running?
P.S. Those temps don't seem too bad

heh. yeah i was just gonna say get the lastest drivers when i BSDed!

then again, im using beta DX9 and beta Catalyst drivers. at any rate, you might wanna check out:
www.amdmb.com
because they have a very active and extensive forum for hardware troubleshooting.

ok, going to get the latest drivers.
I got bored while waiting and stripp the computer apart and then put it back to gether again.. It's working now. 🙂
Bad connections maybe ?
Kinda at a loss for what just happened.
Thanks for the help though. 🙂
Will see how long it holds 🙂
