hey guys... i got a p4c800e-dlx and the northbridge stock heatsink gets really hot.... now i want a cooling solution that will both cool down my northbridge while remaining silent and one that would fit under a zalman cnps7000a-cu... please advise guys....

i got a set of OCZ PC4000 EL 2x256meg dual channel ram (Specs HERE) installed on an asus p4c800e-dlx mobo w/ a 2.8c... now i've been experimenting with oc'ing and it's going ok... but i'm been readin up on memory timings and stumped... can some of you guru's out there help me with my timings to get the best possible oc out of my 2.8c?

Someone else wanting to overclock the sh*t out of his system, but not wanting a fan... Well, this is the only aftermarket NB cooler that I know of that doesn't have a fan: Zalman NB cooler. It's out of stock now, but is supposed to be in stock again in three days.

edit: Oops, I forgot about the ram. Sell it and get some good, fast PC3200 like OCZ gold or platinum, Corsair XMS, or Kingston HyperX.

just get one with a fan, out performes the microcool and swiftec offerings with a smaller price tag. the heatsink isn't as good but the high grade delta fan makes up for it. i recently put it in my pc, does wonders, smaller than even my stock cooler.

incase you care, here are some pictures. i wasn't sure what to expect when i ordered it because size was a major problem in my situation also(as you can see from the photos).

i couldn't find any good detailed photos of the heatsink prior to buying so i went out on a limb, at least now you won't have to...

1. ocz platinum pc3200 :) (no gold)

2. if you do get the corsair xms or kingston hyperx pc3200 or ocz pc3500 LE plat... then you're gonna need some mad crazy vdimm volts to make that ram fly... (at least 3.2 vdimm volts)

wow... that looks really tight... added up together the nb-1's height is 50mm... i wouldn't mind getting it... but i don't think there will be enough clearance under the 7000a-cu... also how loud is that delta fan... isn't it rated at 35db or something?... that thermaltake solution didn't look bad... thnx for the suggestions

dangerden.com has a water block for the suckers
i suggest that and a floppy bay resevoir
that will fix any heat problems :)

yes,its 35dba, however its so small you won't hear it, its not enough to get through the case. it pushes A LOT of air for a 40mm fan. the thermaltake NB cooler uses a blower rather than a fan,so its going to be much much taller.

edit: do you have any old P1 passive or active coolers you could epoxy or thermaltape to your northbridge?

That's exactly what I've always done when I wanted to overclock a board that didn't come with a NB fan. You actually don't even need to remove the stock NB heatsink, which will void your warrantee. All you need to do is use a tiny bit of superglue to hold the fan to the 'sink, and that's it. If you ever need to RMA the board, just pop the fan off with a screwdriver, and it's back to factory condition.
