1. Anyone have experience with a velvet couch? How well do they hold up? It seems like it would show wear pretty easily.

2. Is Raymour & Flanigan decent quality? This is the couch I'm looking at. (ignore the chaise in the middle, it looks a lot better if you put it on one of the sides, or it can be used with a chair)

Wouldn't it looks like of wierd when the little bits of velvet fall off from wear? Ive always prefered a nice leather couch over anything.

If you have kids it will be trash in 3 months. That is a very cheap couch for $700+. If you want a couch to last start looking in the $3000+ range.

Why not get something a bit more contemporary?

Ikea sofas have removable covers. You can wash them, or buy extra covers.

Might look odd in an 80 year old house. And I'm not a huge fan of the metal legs. And honestly, I like the look of the one I linked to. We do have an Ikea couch though. It's pretty nice, and the slipcovers are great if you ever want to change the color of the room.

No kids. We're not looking for something that'll last 10 years, more like 4 or 5.

Edit: It's "100% polyester velvet" if that makes a difference... are there different kinds of velvet?

Get micro fiber. It looks similar and holds up very well..it's completely washable and very comfortable!

I think I've ruled out the velvet. Anyone have any opinions on Ramour & Flanigan?

$3000 for a set, or just the couch?
