Couple of P4 related questions...

I'm thinking of going with the MSI Ultra motherboard. This a good choice? It's much cheaper for me to get this one over the Asus P4B266-C and plus it has another RAM slot. Will this board be good for overclocking?

And also am I going to need a new case/PS? Right now I have an AOpen KF45-A case with a 250W PS. If I don't need a new case just because of the P4 factor, is 250W going to be enough? I'd really rather not shell out another $50 for a case...

I'm guessing your power supply dosen't have a square looking Aux power line on it. You need this if you're going to use a P4

Yes but if he gets the Asus P4B266-C he will not need it since it has EZ plug.

looking at specs, the MSI board requires a 4-pin 12v connector, if your PS doesn't have then you'll need a new power supply. I would think a 250W PS would be ok.
Probably have to take that into consideration either buy new PS and MSI board or going with the ASUS board and keeping existing PS, since the ASUS has the EZ-Plug.

You dont have to get a new PS. You can get one of These adapters instead. If you want the best i845 board, get an EPOX 4BDA or 4BDA2+ if you need RAID.

250W power supply will not be enough for the Pentium 4 especially if you don't have the 4 pin 12v power line. It is recommended you use a 300W or more power supply for the Pentium 4.

MSI is a good board, a good price for the feature, including USB 2.0
I used to have that board and i've been able to reach FSB 139 flawlessly.

I've got an MSI 645 Ultra with Samsung PC2700 and a 1.6A P4, and it performs very well. I'm using an Enermax EG365P-VE(FMA) 350w power supply, and a cheap case I bought so I could use its power supply in a second PC.

I came from an Abit VH6 motherboard, so I wasn't used to the smaller degree of "tweakability" in the BIOS, but most of the important things are there. Vmemory is probably the most important omission, and the highest voltage setting for the Northwood is only 1.6v (which allowed me to get up to a 143mhz fsb, or just under 2.29Ghz). For the performance it's giving me (default 3DMark2001 score is over 8000 with a Radeon 8500), it was well worth its price (I paid $119cdn, or about $75 usd).
