Im going to canada in a month and am considering getting a blackberry bold (if they are avaliable when i go), first i have a couple of questions though.

Does blackberry offer any international warranty (eg. if i buy one in canada and take it back to switzerland will i be able to send it in to some place here, or would i have to ship it back to canada?)

Secondly with my current phone subscription i have 250mb traffic a month, which really should be plenty for what im planning on using it for, but i would really like a program that will monitor how much internet (http, bbm, push mail, etc...) traffic that goes through my blackberry, just to make sure.

Thirdly can i use the blackberry as an external modem for my MacBook (win xp + os x leopard) when im traveling, i thought i read somewhere that blackberry had a standard program for this?

Thanks

Noone?

Id also be interested in knowing if there is any way of downloading all the maps (blackberry maps) to a micro sd card, this way it would be faster and if you dont have an unlimited data plan you wont need to worry about costs, plus im assuming it would save you battery life as well (seeing as you arent downloading anything other than a gps signal)

For warranties, I think you'd be fine buying it in Canada and having it fixed in Europe... but I don't know.

For data, I think you'd be fine. I use about 60MB per month on my iPhone... but I don't know how to check utilization on a Blackberry... but I'd be surprised if there's no way to check it.

For tethering, you can definitely do tethering through a Blackberry. They do openly support it.

For the maps... I doubt they let you download all the maps to a microSD, but I don't know this either.

A whole lot of "I don't know's" :) We need DivideByZero the Blackberry guru.

Thanks for the info, too bad you cant download the maps, shouldnt be too hard for someone to make a "hack" like that though. Ok, i hope DivideByZero sees this thread...

Hie. Been moving house and my Broadband has been delayed.

I have a BB Bold. I can check with my RIM contacts about international warranties for you.

Most apps will tell you how much data they use, they nearly all have counters. One in particular is BlackBerry maps. It's very clear how much it uses (and it's not very much TBH). Opera mini and Google maps also have counters. The BB itself does not have a 'total' counter, but email is compressed over the BB network so unless you are using attachments every day it should be minimal. A heavy email user (no attachments) would struggle to hit 10Mb a month with the email component.

If you have any other questions, please post them. I'm more than happy to help.
