Couple of BF2 questions

If I change my screen name, will it wipe my stats?

How do you toggle radar lock on the jets?

Does a flight stick make a huge difference in aircraft?

Will the BFBC 2 due out in march make BF2 obsolete?

Thanks!

If you change your screen name it's like starting all over again. Your stats on your old screen name will still be there but the new one will be fresh.

What do you mean toggle radar lock on the jets? Every radar in the game automatically locks when you have your crosshairs on an enemy, jets/AA.

I'm sure a flightstick would make a huge difference in flying but doesn't seem logical to me to buy one just for the game but if you already have one then why not.

BFBC 2 is different in many ways and the only thing that'll make BF2 die is BF3. Bad Company is a consolized PC game and part 2 will be the same.

Thanks

I was kicked from a server because they mis-read my screenname (nothing offensive), and told to change it if I want to join again. Don't think I'll be going there again.

Radar lock toggle - I recall someone using that to sneak up on other aircraft...?

Thanks again!

Oh ya, forgot one!
Is there any rational to any of the different customizations of the servers ,(for example, "no attacking uncap", etc.)? Or is it all just personal preference? The only rational I could think of are to stop stat padding somehow.

And is there anyway to lower ping? I live in japan, which only gives me a half dozen or so 64 player servers sub 250 ping. Kind of sucks sometimes, as there look like a lot of good servers out there I can't access.

Re: above, most server rules are totally personal preference. Sometimes that personal preference is for stat padding...

2) If you are in a jet with bombs and missles, switching to bomb mode prevents you from locking on to another aircraft.

Many times they use special rules to help the flow of the game. In this example, many people think attacking uncaps is cheap because its akin to spawn raping, since there is no other reason to do it. People who are spending time mowing down people in uncaps aren't capturing or defending flags. Some servers make it to where you can't attack uncaps till on other flags are captured. You'll find that many of the rules used actually help balance the game. I'm always an advocate of gamers policing themselves this way.

My clans runs a BF2 server, and really the only rules we have (other thanhacking/stat padding) are there to keep the traffic high and the server full. Our main rule is no EXCESSIVE spawn camping or atacking uncaps, as those activities usually lead to people getting frustrated and leaving, or getting capped out ridiculously fast leading to lopsided games.

The rules help a bit, although it forces us admins to babysit more than we'd like. But nothing is better for the server than close games. With that in mind, most people seem to have forgotten that BF2 is about teamwork.

A good joystick (not just any cheap joystick), will make a huge difference in flying in BF2.

If people actually played in squads with good communication, spawn/uncap raping wouldnt be a problem. Too many noobs

I only have access to a few servers here, so perhaps I notice defects more.
I really dislike the servers with extra 'rules', as it seems to either ruin the point or be a platform for petty managers who enjoy 'mod'ing. For example, one server has an 'only SF in uncap, and can only fire if fired upon' rule. Its ridiculous, and even following this rule, I got kicked because I was more clever and faster on the draw than a member of the clan that was running the server. So I end up playing on one server usualy, the one with vanilla rules, the way it was designed to be played.

I really enjoy any kind of free play. Obviously I don't agree with intentional TK, and I understand the desire for variety with FF or infantry only or such servers. But I feel that finding innovative or clever ways to get the upper hand shouldn't be punished - in fact it seems to what makes the game so much fun. And if being able to slip through defences to blow up enemy radar or steal a jet or whatever is the way to do that, than good for the guy that has the wits to do so. If I wanted a nerfed or modded game I could play one of the countless scripted shooters out there.

I got a question. If your stats got frozen a long time ago, is there a way to have it become unstuck? I think it has to do with a glitch on EA's server that keeps track of ranks. Basically, I can't unlock the next rank and have been stuck at the same rank forever.

Which rank is that?

hahaha, that sucks so bad! Is that a bug? Im at 29000 points, master seargent. I guess I'm stuck too till 50000! It says Im missing BASIC aviator and ground defense bagdes. IIUC, I need 5 min (!) in GD, and 10 minites in an airplane! I've spent much longer than that. Do they mean consecutivley, or something else nutty?

And I agree about squad play. I always play squad leader, and I often spend half the game on the recruit screen. I can ususaly tell within a few minutes which team will win by their willingness to squad up. This part of bpublic servers bugs me at my level. How is clan play? What exactly is usualy required to play in a clan?

Thanks!

It's probably in one round.

It's great to play with a bunch of guys who work together. The key thing is getting on a Teamspeak or Vent channel and chatting it up during the game. Some guys have a real talent for leadership and communicating situational awareness. Other guys are funny as sh*t! You miss that when you're not on VOIP.

Most servers are hosted by clans, and will advertise a TS or vent URL. Find a server you like, get on VOIP, and "try them out". If it feels good, see about joining. Most if not all clans will have a web site with forums.

atfclan.com....the only one you need to know. :p

But seriously, hop on the server and give it a shot. Just don't TK or flame or do any other sort of asshattish behavior.
