Do I need to run the program twice to get it to run full load on my p4 ht? I can only get it to run at 50%, I have it set to 2 threads.

Is it odd that when I look at my result. dat file with mrv that 2 of my comps read exactly the same info?

What version should I be running?

Thanx for the info chris!

I have threads set to 'auto' and priority set to 'L'. I'm using V4.4, and the client uses ~99% of all four procs... I have no clue about the second question about the 2 computers.... :)

Thanx for the info. How do you set to auto?

And backround means it will run at full load till something else uses the cpu correct?

The Results.dat file contains two different types of data. First, it contains your completed simulations for your processor to build upon. Second, it contains the top 100 results from each of the four running simulations. So, when you first start, all you have is the four sets of 100 results (and it will all be the same) but as you complete simulations, they will be added to the bottom and the Results.dat files will no longer be the same.

All configuration is done in the Config.txt file. Just use Notepad to edit it.

Welcome to the team!

I am not sure what digit represents auto, its set to 2 threads but is only running at 50%!

On my lappy it has a result file to view but the other 2 pc only have history file, which are exactly the same, why dont they have result files?

Sorry for all the newb questions, just wanna make sure its working right!

Crispy, you can also use this to check the score in each DPAD folder. I use it and it's a really handy tool for DPAD.

Did you restart the client after you canched the threads to auto/2 in the config.txt? If no, you need to do that.

Sometimes DPAD runs one and the same experiment 5 times in a row to verify the result it obtained. During these runs, there won't be a results.txt file unless there was one before that. These tuns occur quite often when you start with a fresh install. Depending on your CPU, they might take a while, but then you'll get like 500 points or so in one piece.

If the proble isn't gone after like one day, report back here and we'll find a solution. :p

A results.txt file is created as soon as a work unit is complete. That can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours depending on complexity and processor speed. If you keep closing and reinstalling, it will never complete the work. When the results.txt file reaches 100kb, it will auto send. That is the default. Then the results.txt file is erased and starts over. Look in the "sendlog" and see if you ever sent any results.

Also, your Explorer settings should be showing "extensions" of known file types, otherwise "results.txt" will only show as "results" making it difficult to tell results.txt from results.dat

Now my lappy is showing muon1.exe in process list but is using no cpu %, and my p4 ht is running at 50% again, is this normal?

Thanx guys!

I restarted both lappy and p4 pc, now both are running at 100% for now..

Hey crispy, on the lappy, make sure you set the priority to B for background.

I always leave Threads (number or 'auto'): auto and I have no problems on HT machines at all. I suggest if you want to, try the service install here: http://www.teamanandtech.net/downloads/ just save it, edit the user.txt and run install.bat. Leave the config file as is. I've used this install on a lot of HT machines and like I said, it works great every time.

Just type auto instead of putting a #?

I did use a ht installer package, and it is running at 100% now, just for some reason while I was sleeping it switched to 50%!

Also, after changing config file do I need to restart progy?

Also, your sample file line is non-standard. Is that intentional?
The line below is the normal version and allows the client to keep all four sample files up to date.

Sample file URL: http://stephenbrooks.org/muon1/samplefiles/{lattice}_100.txt

I did not change anything, would guess it is how it should b, I dloaded the setup for ht xp! Should I change it?

I just checked the p4 and it is running at 50% again!

With an HT processor, even if Task Manager shows 50%, the program is really using 100%.

If there is an advantage running two threads, I don't think it can be huge.

Does anybody know exactly how much of an improvement two threads on HT does?

Well it runs at 100% for a few hours then it drops to 50%

I have also had a 3400+ running for about 24 hours and it is the only pc not showing any progres, no result.txt file and showing the same on result.dat!

Crispy, I would recommend that you run the Command Line version so you can see what is happening.
It will clearly tell you how many threads it starts, what the progress is, if there are problems, etc...
If you are running the Background version, you are running blind.

for example:

Detected 1 logical processors
Loading results.dat...
New simulation
Making new genome, TrialType=MuSpherical... Done
Interpreting lattice file 'PhaseRotC'... Done
Beamline consists of 168 units
Adding components to simulation space
Tantalum rod source data loaded.
Building proximity grid 3x3x50 (450 cells)... Done
Tracking central particle to synchronise RF phases... Done
Done adding components
Normalising beam...
Scheduling decays...
Determining nearby components... Done
- Starting -
t = 6.29ns (37306/49849 particles) 3.9 Mpts

Ok after restarting the 3400+ it is now showing a result.txt, I hope it did some work over the last 24, it was on at 100%.

I have all working fine now, except for the p4 ht that runs at 100% for a long time then decides to drop to 50%, but a simple restart fixes it back to 100%. Better to loose 2 min of work and restart then to have it running at 1/2 speed!

right now I have..

p4 570j - 3.8
1.5m - lappy
3400+ 64 - 2.4
2200+ xp- 1.8
1.2 duron

running dpad!

I am quickly becoming a addict to this, lol!

Thanx for all the help!
