Country driving is wicked

And it can be scary, too!

The limit on the two-lane (one each side) roads I was driving on was 55mph, however I was cruising along at 60 - 75 mph depending on conditions. Overtaking is really hair-raising, I don't know how those farmers do it all the time. One time I wanted to overtake right after a car passed me on the other side, however I didn't quite judge the distances right and I pulled out as the other car was next (and a bit in front) of me. Scared the bejeesus out of my passenger, and me too (Hey, I'm still a novice driver)

Overall though I love driving in the country. Wherever there's smooth blacktop with no other cars, rolling vistas, tight curves, it's a blast There were a LOT of motorcycles that day. Sometimes in groups of 20-50.

I just wish the car had been a standard.

Yeah its fun. I live in the boonies, and the road to my gf's house is 10 miles of 55MPH, two lane, almost completely uninhabitated road. Although today I was pissed off, and got my car up to 80MPH before I saw a 10MPH curve up ahead and smoked my brakes trying to slow down in time. My poor car; its an 87 Bonneville, and I was driving it like it was a Ferarri... Poor thing was begging me to stop.

Only bad thing about driving in the boondocks are the deer/rabbits/racoons/grizzlies

Ouch. Good thing you didn't try going into that curve at 80.. hehe :)

Yeah, at nighttime the animals become a hazard. Not only that but I'd feel terrible if I hit one. I haven't up to now though.

50 miles each way, morning and night, US40 though Colorado for almost two years. I finally got my pardon. ;)

Yeah, it sucks all right. ;)

the only downside is the deer, they can mess you up big time if you don't see them in time. Be especially careful at night since you haven't learned to pick them out yet

When I went to Kentucky to visit my g/f's grandparents (out on the farm), the last 10 miles were dirt road.. People are different out there, streets have such colorful names as "Big Bloody Creek Rd.", and total strangers will wave hi at you as you drive by, and people tend to be very nice. (Of course, God help you if you're black and that slavery reparations thing goes through..)

One time we were hanging out and this guy drove by on an ATV, your stereotypical Dukes of Hazzard hick wearing a wifebeater shirt with a cooler of beer strapped to the back of the vehicle... (Although, given that we were maybe 50 miles from the city of Hazard, a real place in Kentucky, I'm not surprised..)

You have got to be careful driving country roads. The last thing you want is a deer to cross your path and you spin out of control on a curve because you were going too fast.

ooo... 55mph road... I live up in the country it's no big deal. Yeah we do drive 60-75mph.... sometimes faster than that. You learn your limits and where the deer are eventually, they're the natural way of calming your lead foot down rather than being pulled over. Farmers.... I suppose you think we all listen to country music in the sticks as well too eh?

Yes, farmers. All that was around me was farms and more farms and yet more farms. Actually the limit was 90kmh, I converted it because most people on these boards are from the US and you guys are still using an outdated system :D

you want a fun as hell ride, try taking route 56 south in upstate NY, that road is crazy... the best part of the trip is that that road connects Lake Placid (very very rich town) with the canadian border, and on this rural, deer and mountain lion infested road you often see Porshe Boxsters, 911s and ferrarris blow past you winding around at 100mph... it's crazy at first, but you definitly get to loving it:)
