Yesterday in my server some better than average players asked me to disable SV_AUTOAIM that I had enabled in the server files. After I set it to "0" shutting it off and then restarting the server their shooting ability seemed to get sharper and mine worse? Does anyone know what this command does...and how it affects the better than average players as compared to the less than average? More than one of them were asking for me to disable it and after doing so I thought to myself ......self.... it must have decreased their ability in some way for them to be asking me to disable it. And how did they know it was enabled to begin with? Could they tell from their bullet patterns?

geez i don't know... i had a list once of what all those commands for client and server were supposed to mean, but i think that was v1.0 and things change and i can't seem to find that file anymore... i *thought* that file was just to mean whether or not users were *ahem* more likely to shoot the thing they were actually aiming at (moving model) or not. 0 would mean no; 1 would mean yes. weird programming language...

so if that's the case that means you weren't a good shot technically speaking before it was disabled, but when it was disabled it helped you. does that make sense? but i don't see how it would make THEIR shooting better by disabling it? seems like it would be the other way around...

perhaps posting at the CS forums would yield more admins with more insight than a feeble n00b like myself? :p

This is just a poke in the dark, but setting SV_AUTOAIM to 0 might be turning it on. I donno!

0 is always off in the cvar settings.

I know that... but I've never known what the autoaim setting is. If anyone finds out, come back and post it here.

SV_AUTOAIM? Never heard of it.. I know sv_aim tho.. which causes the crosshairs to turn red when placed over a player.. I would assume sv_autoaim allows users to turn the autoaim feature on? Back in single player that allowed your crosshairs to almost stick to an enemy's head or body.. like you just had to get them near the head and it would snap to it. Although now that I think about it I sorta remember that option being sv_autocrosshair .. I'm not exactly sure but that might cover it.

I apologize it is SV_AIM....See below a copy of my server settings

// Use this file to configure your DEDICATED server.
// This config file is executed everytime the server changes levels.

//Settings that need to be here, but can be altered somewhat
sv_minrate 3000 //Setting this higher will make for smother play, but lag modem users
sv_maxrate 8000 //Setting this to 8000 (the max allowed) will make for smother play under some conditions

//Standard Settings that don't need to be changed
pausable 0
sv_aim 0
sv_cheats 0
sv_airaccelerate "10"
sv_maxspeed 400

In that case, see my previous post. :)

BTW, handy for any server admin for a HL server: Command Center.
