Counterstrike stinks since building my new rig

🙁Ever since I built my new puter (see sig) my CS blows. Although i have a constant 99fps (should I believe it?) I get lousy pings, constant laggin once I get in a game. My old puter which was a Gateway PIII 700 Mhz, Geforce3, 384mb sdram, Windows 98 was better. That puter is networked with my new one and a third puter running Windows XP. We have a Linksys 4port router and cable modem. My puter has an onboard nic, other 2 have linksys nics. We are hard wired not wireless. Big reason for buildin the new rig was CS and i'm really dissapointed. It almost seems like i have a lousy cable connection. How can I check that? Anybody have this same experience? P.S. since its a new rig, I had to do a new install of HL, update that to latest version and then get the download version of CS which is what I had before. P.S. my son likes to play Team Fortress Classic on the Gateway setup and has similar problem with lousy pings and laggy.

Maybe its not your system, maybe its just a coincedence that you upgraded and your ISP started to slow down? What kind of broadband are you using? Have you tried dslreports.com?

Yes go to dslreports.com and run the tweak test, follow the instructions and make sure you OS is configured for high speed. Make sure you have all available updates like :

1.)Video Drivers
2.)Chipset Drivers
3.)Sound Drivers
4.)Bios
5.)DrTCP off dslreports.com
6.)Direct X 9.0

Does it only lag when you and your son are playing online?

Try to play with a connection directly into your PC only; playing it without the router. See if it still lags.

ok if your son gets lousy pings on the old machine then i don't know why you would even think that the problem was with your new rig...please tell me you really didn't think it was the new machine... please...

anyway did you change your isp?

did you install any new software on any of the machines connected to your network? the culprit may be a file sharing app that was left running. i am networked w/6 other people in a house and if someone runs kazaa everyone of our connections slows to a crawl. then i go and yell at them.

Did you optimize your rate settings and stuff on your old machine? If so you probably need to do them on the new machine.
