Counterstrike messing up my internet?

When i run my counterstrike 1.5... my internet starts getting all laggy.... and when i try to update to get more servers it takes almost 5 minutes to get 100 servers... like 2 days ago It would take seconds with my Telus ADSL ethernet internet.... i dont know whats happening because it worked fine a day ago ... i didn't change any setting i just came home one day to find that counterstrike doesn't work... i know its counterstrike creating this problem because when i dont run it , the internet Works fine!! until i run counterstrike and then my internet goes really slow or just doesn't work at all for a short amount of time... If you can help me that would be great! if you need more information about my problem PLEASE ASK!
