When trying to get into a server the yellow bars showing progress will just stop and an annoying sound keeps playing over and over again on my speakers. I can't even get out of counterstike, i have to power down my computer via the front power button.

Comp specs

Dell 8200 series mobo
p4 2.0ghz processor
512mb pc2100, 256mb pc2700
ATI Radeon 9700tx (Newest Omega drivers) with vga scilencer. (exactly like 9700 non pro)
SB Live! value sound card
No router

Help! I blew some money on this old game and i at least want to see what some of my friends are addicted to!

Thanks for replies!

get Steam

make an account and click counter-strike in games list and itll ask u for cd-key and such

when u buy the game from a store all ur buying is the cd-key

i wouldnt even install the game from the cd's it comes with, just get steam and go from there

Qu1ck i have already done that. I printed out a "certificate" saying my name, address and user ID number. I have half life platinum pack. I can go through steam, and get to the servers, but as soon as i connect to one counter strike becomes unresponsive and i have to shut down my computer.

Are you overclocking the video card? I wonder if it's some weird problem with the Sound Blaster card. Try quitting all soundblaster programs and closing any soundblaster stuff from the system tray. Also, if that doesn't do anything, do you have some special sound options set in CS under options? If so, try setting those to crappier/lower settings. Good luck!

*edit* btw, how come you have mixed ram? do you run them all at 2100 or run them asynchronously?
