God dammit. In game advertising wouldn't bother me if the developers weren't charging money for the game in the first place. Valve can go screw themselves for this, and if there is any advertising in TF2/Portal/Ep2 then I won't buy it.

Why does this piss people off? Personally, if it helps keep servers running (not necessarily in this case) then I'm all for it. As long as it doesn't interfere with the game too much, it's a great way to raise revenue.

Agreed. The other ones do not bother me at all, but that one on the top left is obnoxious.

It pisses me off because I paid for the goddamn game - AND THEN THEY CHANGED IT WITHOUT ME AGREEING TO IT.

WTF.. I hope people file a class-action lawsuit. I'm so goddamn sick of credit card, cell phone, cable/internet, and now GAMING companies changing agreements and 'opting in' a customer whether or not they agree to it.

I understand where you're coming from, but Steam doesn't host any CS servers... so this doesn't keep anything running, it just makes them more money.

It was/is only a matter of time before this sort of thing will become commonplace in games (IMO). As long as your screen isn't filled with advertisements or as long as the game is playable, what's the big deal?

This is nothing new. CS servers have been doing this for quite some time now.
It's very very annoying when they have them stupid sprites floating all over the places or the "Admin" spams the "admin" channel with all the crappy web hosting services offered by the crappy company.

When I run into servers like that I just log off and find another server. It's not that hard.

I refuse to put up with that crap.

Absolutely. From a business perspective it was inevitable. They already have a captive audience in the most desired target market...in fact I'm surprised it took this long.

The same thing happened with movies in the theatre a while back, they started showing commercials before the movie, people were outraged for a few weeks/months...life goes on and the corporation makes more money.

In fact I just recommended in-game advertising in a mock business plan I was doing for school.
