The key to good shooting is to not spray and pray... focus your crosshairs... pop a couple shots off, let the recoil settle, and then hit it again.
Know the hiding places, know where you can safely reload, know how to flash and how to nade.
People will camp more when they are hurting, so if you know you have some shots on a person, make sure to move cautiously around corners.
Don't one man rush... you might get a few people, but it'll be a long round if you have to sit and watch all the campers waste the round time down.
Follow someone who is doing well and take notes from them. Obviously they are doing something right.
Change your tactics every few rounds... someone will catch on and school you... or you can get the jump on that person if you think they will expect you in a certain place ... so you sweep around and hit all the camp spots guarding that place after going the other path a few rounds.
Contrary to popular belief, an AWP and a Desert Eagle is not the best weapon combination ever. Don't waste your money.
A helment only helps if the other team can aim. If you're short on funds, skip the helmet and just go for Kevlar.
Extra ammo for pistol is a better purchase if you short on funds than a rifle with no ammo. You can find plenty of rifles laying around after only a minute. Take your pick.
Be friends with the MP5. Again, if you're short on cash, this thing is well-rounded beast. A bit weak, but it's better than a pistol.
The best tip ever:
AIM FOR THE HEAD. If you are just starting, you're better off getting in the habit now than trying to build it up later. With most guns, it can take half a dozen shots and 3 more seconds to hit in the chest than torso... you might not have that time.
Most importantly: Have fun. Someone has to lose... if it's you...it's okay... you'll spawn again next round. Don't get upset.
