How to tell how many players are actually playing in Counter Strike Source.

I usually sort the servers based on number of players then ping speed.

I hate it when I join a server that says 62/64 then when it loads there are only 8 players playing. Worse case scenario only bots are present.

I sometimes have better luck joining the 30/32 servers with regards to the number of players actually playing.

yes I do hit both quick refresh and refresh.

So any way to actually see or tell the number of players actually playing?

I am a relative newbie at CS source x3 months(no broadband at home and only play when I bring my laptop to a friends house.)

Side question:
is it better to sit there and wait crouching or be running around all the time.
I get this bad feeling people are cheating when I am sitting there waiting yet they still manage to headshot me as they come in to view. Is it lag ? mostl likely I just suck and my 40 year old reaction time is not helping.

you can hit server info before jioning and if you see players with like -1 Pings on there they are bots.

How are your FPS if they are really low it can couse a laggy affect and make it so you don't do so good.

CS:S is hard to start playing but then again I've played for a bout a year now and I still suck.

I stick to no AWP server and Dust 2 map most of the time.

There is a bots column you can turn on when you're looking for servers. You can also view the server info, which is a better way.

It's better to be running all the time, that way you're ready to fry someone when you see them. Camping, on the other hand, will slow your reflexes because your adrenaline's generally not pumping.
