well I posted in the steam forums and as usual no one helps,


heres the problem i get skipping in cs:s and no fix that any of you are going to offer me will fix it until u read the whole problem and whats actually causing it..

I go to +showbudget in cs and i look and my "filesystem" bar is flying all the way to the right.. i look at my fps grid and at the same time my fps drops to zero.. I than notice my game skip.. (obviously these all happen at the same time but had to clear that up)

so i did some reading and found that filesystem is when ur game is pulling files off your computer.. well i was wondering how in the heck that would cause my fps to drop to zero or to skip like that.. so i looked at "fs_warning_level 4" if u do it without the 4 it gives u options of which level to pick.. anyway it tells you what files are loading when you're playing.. SOOOOOO i look and when it does skip like 20-....... however many files will load and than I will get this skip.....now to clear this up

This has nothing to do with any settings I hvae found ex... fw, aperture,pcilatency,overclocked,underclocked,different resolution,sp2 no sp2 doesnt matter, its something in the game that I cant figure out.. so i need someone that either has had this experience or knows what would cause it to 1.. drop the fps to zero.. 2. make that many files load.(sometimes its useless sounds i dont even hear or when im standing still... if i do -nosound the problems are cut in half because the sound files are no longer being loaded...


so i tried to put in a sblive 5.1 because i have onboard sound.. made absolutely no differnt, actually got worse..


any suggestions?
 
It sounds like your hitting your hard drive. Is the hd light glowing when you get skip? if so then ram is the answer.
 
well this used to nevre happen, i actually used to have more of a stuttering problem but i dk if they are related cuz i dont hvae a hd light.... ummm... but it is loading off of the hard drive.. waht do you mean its a ram problem???
 
underclocking everything did not change ONE BIT

im going to go run hl2 and see if the same thing happens brb.. no internet connection
 
well looks like its not the internet that is causing any of this... now the problem is how file system, fs_warning_level +showbudget.. and the fps drop all go together to make this skip like this..

i just cant figure this out at all..

oh btw.. this only happens in source games, i dont think i ever had a problem with far cry, doom 3, prince of persia.. even call of duty the demo ran PERFECT on this machine..

im really starting to wonder if its a coding problem and not my problem
 
Sounds like your hard drive is taking too many resources to load files or just taking too long. I'll assume you've defragged the HDD recently. It's possible that your drive is dying too, though it's unlikely if this is the only problem you're having with it.

But then I've never even played CS:S so what do I know.
