counter-strike source cheating

Hello all. I've recently just started playing Counter-Strike: Source but I've been stunned at how much cheating there is. I guess my first clue should have come when I refreshed all servers with the "secure only" enabled and not a single one came up. I thought that was just a glitch, but apparently not. There's been someone blatantly cheating on nearly every server I've been on. Is this something Valve is working to address? Does Punkbuster not work with Steam or something?

Not a single one came up because there's no such thing as a secure server. Valve hasn't put in the anti-cheat system yet. Who knows if they ever will, frankly this is the first and last purchase I ever get from Valve.

Punkbuster is the best solution, but we are dealing with a company that designed a game with horrid netcode and made it worse by adding steam. They aren't interested in doing something good, just doing it their way.

Well it's sometimes hard to tell if someone is cheating. You can't really say someone is cheating because they own you. But I have been on servers where someone was using a speed hack and was moving really fast. That was to obvious though. I was on a server the other day and someone kept getting several headshots on my team. I thought that was kinda fishy but I didn't say anything. But just lastnight I too out 3-4 ppl on a team all showing headshots. I never ain't at their heads just their chests.

But I do think more ppl cheat then what some on here claim since there are no secure servers. Also IMO I think more luck is involved then skill in this game especially in close combat. Its whoever shoots/sees who first that gets the kill 70% of the time.

If I think someone is to good, instead of calling them a cheater/hacker I just leave. You don't have to play on that server.

It's extremely obvious when someone is cheating, at least if you are experienced in it. All the cheats have certain signs that give them away. Speedhack is obvious. Wallhack you can catch when a person aims through objects, like walls or boxes. If you are spectating, you see everything they see. If the are aiming at a wall and they seemingly follow a line on the wall until a bad guy pops out, that's pretty obvious. You want to spectate a little more to be sure, but cheaters never try to hide it. I mean, they are stupid enough to cheat...

The quick sign for aimbot is that they suddenly twist around and kills someone without knowing they are even there. You cannot sneak up on someone with aimbot. Of course they can sometimes configure it to be less noticeable, but if you keep your eyes open you can see the signs.

The speed hack is what I saw. I've seen it on at least 5 servers. The point is so long as it's possible, someone's going to do it, so I hope Valve steps up to the plate and does something about it. I just sent them an e-mail saying so. Hopefully others will too. It doesn't serve their interests to have fewer people playing because the game is ruined by cheaters.

Wallhack is the hardest to detect imo, since you can't see everything they see. Even if they follow ppl throw the wall, it's hard to know they are doing that since you can't see through the wall yourself.

PS Cheaters are fvcking losers.

Just because someone is shooting through a wall or box to kill you doesn't mean they're hacking. You can shoot through some surfaces in the game.

You mean the quy who was 42-3 and AWP'd me while I was jumping and he was falling isn't really just that good?

LOL....seriously, he actually turned to see who he hit cause he had no idea where he shot.

to be honest : even though they slowed down cs:s a lot, it is still fast-paced enough where people can do some things that well.. just look like cheating.

I'm no endall cs player, i never played past cal-m (and in cal-m i got my ass handed to me, reapeatedly) and most all my friends are way better then me. Yet when i play with my WoW guild, who all have recently picked up the game for the first time, i can tear them up a new one. And have won, despite it being 3 against me solo. Had they not known me from something else, they'd all swear i was cheating. They know for fact i'm not though, since one of them lives down the street from me (Strange coincidence, no?) and has seen me play legit, yet tear people up. my favorite thing is to headshot them from long range, and they never have a clue where i was.

just switch servers until you find one suited to your level of play. Some servers have more expirience people, others have less. And of course you get the occasional drifter looking for a server. find a couple you like, and play there consistantly. that's the only way the game was fun for me.

I'm not talking about beating up on a bunch of RPG nerds new to FPS games. I've had 8-9 kill runs during a single match myself. On non-cheating servers I usually have the 3rd or 4th highest score and in BF1942 during the first few months I got the gold medal 50% of the time.

Hell I could take on every last member of your WoW guild at the same time in any FPS, wouldn't be the first time. RPG players aren't used to the speed. In fact, if you move from one FPS to another you can be taken by surprise.

The ignorance displayed in this thread is heartening. If people who hate cheaters don't know that Valve is sort of quietly testing VAC2, then the cheaters probably don't, either.

Nobody knows when it will roll out, but hopefully it'll be soon.

As long as there is online gaming, there's going to be some k00l k1dd13 that'll figure out a way to make the experience less fun for honest gamers. No matter how many anti-cheating measures the originating company puts in, there will always be a way around it.

That being said, I find it extremely amusing that people immediately hate Valve because they have not "done anything" about cheaters. What about all the other games on the market with cheaters? Do you hate them too because the company who made the game hasn't done anything to prevent cheaters there too?

Believe me, they're doing what they can. VAC2 will be inplace soon, then the kiddies will find ways around that too. It's an unfortunate fact on online gaming. Deal with it and stop blaming the company who wrote the game. Blame the retards who release ub3r l337 h4x for your games. The more popular a game is, the more it's a target for cheating.

I get accused of cheating all the time. I have been banned from at least 4 steam servers now because they think I cheat. Its because of what I put in bold above. I look for the most logical place that the enemy would be coming from and I aim at about head level and strafe over. If someone happens to be there I usually catch them off guard and get a head shot. No big deal though, I just think "hmmm I owned them so badly they thought I cheat...sweet" Then I move on to a new server.

I think he was talking about people sitting with the AWP, tracking someone through a wall way out of hearing distance.
Which does happen once in a while.

Very well said, i totally agree with you.
But noobs dont know this. As soon as they get killed by someone better, the only way they retaliate is by calling u a hack. And slowly the whole team will go against you. This is why I hate noobs and I'd love it if I cud "hack" their dead bodies in CS(i am no violent man in real life ;))

>Does Punkbuster not work with Steam or something?

Punkbuster was offered to Valve and they pissed on it plain and simple. Who do you think bought PB ??? Id sofware and they named the company Even Balance.

RTCW + ET + PB = not one cheat - resulting in a fun and very even game based on skill.

Valvel + CSS = infested with cheats, and the admins are the absolute worst. - results are an unplayable game geared towards lamers who have no skill.

I like that CS and CSS attracts cheaters. It gives them a place to congregate, cheat together and not ruin the games I play.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are the acronyms RTCW and ET?

Thanks!

Only real defense against cheaters in CS/CSS is active admins who know what theyre doing. It's like blaming society for criminals-- nothign society does will stop them, so the solution is to increase the number of enforcers. I know that addresses the symptoms and not necessarily the problem, but sometimes the problem is not easily fixed.

Valve's handling of cheat solutions has been absolutely abysmal. I try to get excited about VAC2 coming out soon, but after seeing their pathetic handling of VAC I have little faith in its long term effectiveness. Hopefully they will surprise me.

They still should have just handed the job over of PB. Regardless, the game absolutely should not have been put on retail shelves without a anticheat solution in place. Its not an option anymore.
