While the X800 Pro is faster than the 6800GT in Source, the margin is rather small from what I have seen. Thus I feel that the 6800GT is a more reasonable buy IMO as it is generally faster than the X800 Pro in most games and more future-proof due to the SM3.0 thing.

Guys, check Xbit. The GT ownz the X800pro and half of the time bests the X800XT by a decent margin WITH OR WITHOUT 4x 8x AA/AF.

6800GT > x800 pro.

Until ATI brings out a x800pro with 16 pipes and some better OpenGl drivers, there is nothing much the x800 pro can do but sink in price.

seems either is a good choice really but imo, the 6800gt seems the best buy

its the same price, have more pipes (scales better) has faster memory that helps in higher resolutions, and of course sm3.0 and the yet to work video processor

i see in the xbit tests that on the level where they test masive over draw, (italy level) the 6800's totally beast the ati cards, massive over draw is tested in aquamark which is why i think aquamark is such a usefull bench

Where did you find these prices? Newegg has both the x800 pro and GT's around 400 dollars.

Everywhere else I've been looking shows that the X800 pro is actually > than the GT in most games... not all but most...

I had at one point, I had an ATI x800pro. I initally had a ATi 9800pro i was able to get like 50 fps average in cs:s. But with the x800pro i was only getting an increase of 20 fps max. Most of time it was averaging about 70 fps. I was thinking that this counldnt be right because its alot newer card. It has a faster gpu and ram. It confused me. I returned it and bought a 6800GT and now my fps never go below 90 to 100. I am averaging like 110 fps on cs:s and i will hit 150 to 160 in doors. I used teh same settings for the x800pro. I guess those 4 more pipe lines really make a difference, in addition to the faster speed ram. I have started to realize that the speed of teh ram is alot more important than teh speed of the gpu.

Plus the card was $60 cheaper so saved me money and a better performing card. :)

Oh btw but running the benchmark in cs:s, my 6800gt only beat out the x800pro by like 2 fps, so for hl2 i have a feeling they will almost have identical results

For those 3 games, its a tossup, with the x800 Pro slightly better at farcry. I'd still get the GT though.

xbits toms and AT all show the GT winning the majority of tests,

x800pro or 6800gt? the nvidia is a no brainer, a quick oc later an well u got an ultra,

u gotta faff round with the x800 to make it any better

i personally would get the 6800 gt, not only that i'd get the bfg 6800 gt oc as it easily narrows the gap between the 6800 gt and 6800 ultra, as seen at HardOCP, and from what i've seen they still cost around the same price (gt oc and normal gt)

the 6800 GT does lose to the x800 pro majority of the time when you turn up 8x fsaa and ansiotropic stuff, but that's your choice. for most people that play Source, turning on FSAA and ansio wont make that big of a difference in image quality, and all you really want to do is just shoot people anyways, not oogle at the water and wall textures :p

6800gt is the best card compare to the x800 pro, but the x800 pro a bit better than 6800gt in half life 2 engine, but by a small margine.

Exemple, x800 pro will have a benchmark of 75fps and the 6800gt will have a fps of 70, very little difference, kinda the same difference you can see when nvidia card are better for doom3 than ati cards. Not by much but just a bit superior.

But for ALL the other games get better performance than the x800 pro.The best choice( which i decide too) is to get the 6800gt.
