I cannot get anyone to connect to a server I create..

Is there anything special that is required?

I give the current IP, disable all the firewalls ( XP and Router ) and my buddy uses the console

"Connect 68. " " " "

Is a port required?

What port is it?

I cannot connect to a server he creates, or he cannot connect to one I create..

WE can both join all the internet games though..

:Q

What Am I missing?

Put both of your computers on your DMZ and give that a try? I know that you need to have at least port 27015 forwarded on the server.

Yeah also on your router you have to forward port 27015 to your machine.

He did virtual DMZ and persistant port forwarding for 27000-27400 and no go..

Everyones firewalls are disabled on both sides.

If I use virtual DMZ, doesn't that open all the ports?

When I try to connect to him, I get the following error..

LAN servers are restricted to local clients (class C).

Well if your creating the server then you have to do the port forwarding / DMZ. Also, how are you creating the server? Within the game itself or using HLDS (half-life dedicated server)? Make sure your not creating a lan server.

What's IPX?

ipx protocol..go to your network card properties and install it...you might remember it from Starcraft, if you've played it before

Also if you download HLDS, make a shortcut & add the following in Target: c:\Progra Files\Folder its installed to\hlds.exe -game cstrike +exec server.cfg +port 27015 +sv_lan 0 +maxplayers 16 +map de_dust2 There was another command to boost the fps of the server for better registration but I dont remember, haven't admin a server in a while... maybe it was only a linux command.
