Counter-Strike: Global Offensive trailer

The trailer for this game is out on Steam and I must say, it looks attrocious. The graphics are awful. The animation is way beyond awful. Visually it looks like a tiny, tiny, tiny step up from CS. The gameplay looks like it hasn't moved one millimeter from the boring CS gameplay I stopped playing years ago.

What a disappointment. I was hoping they would try to use this game to get back some of the players they have lost through attrition over the past few years. But it seems Valve is only interested in kowtowing to the same basement dwellers who still play CS today.

BTW I'm not talking about the lame cutscene trailer on Youtube, there's a full gameplay trailer on Steam that doesn't seem to be on Youtube yet.

I think the graphics are fine. Gameplay looks fine too. Just hope they give us maps/items that lets us get creative with the tactics. Also, non retarded netcode/hitboxes. This shit ruined CSS and is a reason why a lot of tournaments use CS 1.6 still.

Hah, I just watched the trailer.

You are right, it does look atrocious. I think it is partly due to the fact the old school maps don't really transfer well to the age of high detail. They look so awkward in the update engine.
The guns looked alright, and that is about it.

Boring CS gameplay? If they changed the gameplay at all I would never even take a look at this game.
I don't understand why you'd pay for a game that's identical in every way (in terms of gameplay) to something you already play. Then again, I don't understand why anyone would want to play the same game for over a decade.

CS is stale. It needs a major gameplay overhaul. I think a new multiplayer, team-based urban counter-terrorism game would be awesome, but give it a major update with some fresh new ideas and modern gameplay.

it would just be a new game then.

people keep going back to cs because at it's core its almost perfect (1.6 that is, not source)

hilarious. people always complain about no one doing anything new and just re-hashing old stuff, but yet when it comes to a game they are fanboys of, it's perfectly fine.

If what I was reading is true, they're talking to a lot of the top players of CS to get feedback about GO.

Never being a top player by any stretch, I'm just curious to see how this comes out and if it provides me with a nice alternative to BF3 when I need a break from that now and again, but still want to shoot someone.

I like the cross-platform ideas and wonder how many PS3 owners will get a kb/m to compete. I'm also really curious to know what the price-point will be for this. From the look of it, I'm not sure it's a $50/$60 title, but they might move a ton of units if it's in the $20/$30 range.

This. If it doesn't cost too much, I may pick it up if some of my other friends do.

Cross platform play is what got me. CS players don't want to play with Xbox live kids, you don't want them in your "ranked" matches. Are they going to add autoaim to help the console people? They can't, the CS players would flip. But if they don't there is no way in hell console players will ever kill a PC player. There aren't many games where you hear people talking about mechanics like hitboxes, and CS players take that shit seriously, especially the ones who never jumped to Source. I'm seriously wondering what Valve's plans are with the cross platform stuff in more detail.

The graphics look fine. CS was never about the graphics anyway. The timeless gunplay is really what matters. CS requires pinpoint precision if you want to survive. Most of the time if you have an AK and can't one click somebody its already over.

No, the players have just convinced themselves that it's almost perfect. Happens to everyone who plays the same game for too long.

I played cs competitively for many years from 1.5 until source when cal died. The core gameplay was perfect. It wasn't about cheap guns or stupid ranks that made your stronger the more you played, it was just your skill and tactics and how you worked with your team. I rarely ever pubbed and I'm speaking almost solely on scrims and matches. I'm optimistic of csgo. It doesn't look perfect right now but hopefully all their additions would make the game better and push it back into the ranks of starcraft 2 in esports.
