Counter Strike gets dark!!!

My roomate had CS installed in his computer (AMD K6-II). It's using win 98 2nd, and has Asus Geforce2 MX 400. The weird thing happens every time he wants to play CS, everything becomes dark, like you lower the brightness level on your monitor.

I did to play around with the video configuration in CS, set everything max. However, it didn't help. So, I update the NVIDIA driver, but it didn't has any changes.

Any suggestions??? I appreciated.... thx...

Have you tried to increase the gamma level in the game?

Yes, the in-game gamma setting should help.

You know what, guys??? I finally found out why... I came back home this afternoon, and hooked his computer to my monitor. Then, when I l turned on the computer, the color is brighter than using his monitor. I checked the gamma control, it's even brighter without setting it up. Thus, my conclusion is that his monitor is too old. Thanks for all advices, guys.

I thought you meant "Dark" as in the character in Perfect Dark. That would've been cool.
