Counter-Strike game temporarily "freezes" when ingame?

I've been playing CS for over a year and a half with no problems at all; but in the past week it's been acting strangely.

When I'm ingame, I'll be playing and the game will temporarily freeze (usually for about 1-2 seconds), but this occurs every 5-10 seconds--making it almost impossible to aim. I will be moving around and then the game will "freeze up," only I'll still be moving in the direction I was when it froze--I can't change the direction; and I won't be able to move my crosshair. Everyone else around me moves normally. It's not lag, I can't see why it would be RAM (because I've played flawlessly for over a year and a half)...I can't think of anything else.

I've tried different resolutions, but no luck. I run the game in OpenGL mode. I haven't tried it in software mode because if I can't run the game in OpenGL, then it's no fun to play. I can't think of any major changes I've made to the game within the past 2-3 weeks that would be causing my game to do this. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Perhaps it is a heat issue? Make sure all fans in your computer that are supposed to be running are running, if the cpu fan, or even the chipset fan is stopped it could mean trouble. Alternatively if that doesn't work, you can try updating to the latest version of your chipset drivers.

Have you installed any new programs, drivers, or patches recently? How much RAM do you have, and how much is unused when you start the game?

Try lowering your graphics settings and/or resolution and see if that makes any difference.

I changed the heapsize of the game (allotted more RAM to the game) and it works fine now. Thanks for the info though!
