Counter-Strike: Condition Zero

Whats the deal with counter strike? I don't know much about Half Life/CS. I thought it was a mod on Half Life and I thought that mod was freely via independant mod makers not a large corporation like Sierra. Did Sierra purchase counter strike from these guys to make Counter-Strike: Condition Zero?

Also, whats the action like in CS? I like Rainbow 6 style games but I find them a little slow in the action department. I play MOH but I would like some more strategy. Is CS a good mix of both? Good strategic simulaion but with semi fast paced action?

Are you CS players going to buy Condition Zero?

Condition Zero is a commercial single player game based on the freely available multiplayer only CounterStrike - the mod for Half Life. Because of the success of HL I believe Sierra enrolled the aid of the original developers of CS to develop Condition Zero.

Is it worth playing CS? Well its a little long in the tooth now and the multitude of hacks available sorta spoil the fun but it is good fun overall. Try it out after all, it is free.

i thought condition zero was to be based on the new half life 2 engine and not the original half life engine / cs mod...

and as far as i know yeha sierra liked the cs mod and endorses it now, same with dod...

CZ is a single player release of CS, using the HL engine.

It will be released to tie in with the public release of CS 1.7. CZ players will be able to join 1.7 players online, without the need for existing HL/CS players to buy CZ, unless they want the single player version.

Confused

cool. I think thats amazing that a group of people can get together and make such a cool mod/game that is so wildly successful. These type of games though I like to play online. SP is ok but it's not the main reason I buy FPS's. I like multiplayer interaction. I don't have HL anymore, after playing it a long time ago for maybe a week, I gave it to a friend. I bet I can buy it cheap though and just DL the CS mod right?

So again, whats the action like? Would you say its fast like MOH or slow like Ghost Recon? I have Ghost recon and I like it but I find the action a bit slow. I used to play MOH/spearhead alot on the survival modes where once you die you must wait for respawn. But thats usually a quick wait even if you die early whereas I found that in ghost recon really boring. A healthy mix of strategy with fast action would really be cool if thats what CS has.

Also are the graphics good in CS? I remember HL and it was cool for its time but by todays standards its like playing Doom 2 or something. My main game atm is BF1942 but I am growing tired of it. Its good though because I don't play much games so when I jump on I don't need to be on it for 5 hours at a time or every day to keep up.
