It's too bad for Valve that Counter-strike passed its prime a long, long time ago (at least IMO).

Technically its a new game, but it's based on a combination of Quake II and Quake III engine (pretty sure about the Quake III part). Basically, it's what everyone is playing online right now, except has the additional 1 player play. Unless its CounterStrike 2, then it's an old game.

wrong on the quake 3.
The engine is based on the Quake 2 engine.

Also, condition zero is supposed to look better. It supports detail textures but I doubt that would save the poor outdated look of the game.

It does contain built in bot play which is cool and many single player maps. If you love cs you should not hesitate to buy it.

Counterstrike is still very popular. Sure there are games with better graphics but it doesn't mean the games are necessarily better. Let's not be ignorant by saying "better graphics = better game."

Isn't it a testament to how good of a game Counter Strike is even though it's 7 years old???

I agree, think about movies, better effects = better movie? Don't think so, but I know......this isn't a movie, but a good comparson IMO. I've been on the CS boat since '00 and played up until the UT2k4 demo came out. I'm afraid that Valve lost my money w/ all the pushbacks on this game. But if you're still into it, this seems like a good deal. I remember seeing CS for $29.99 this past Christmas and its ~4 years old.

Bottom line is CS is still by very far the most played online game so I guess we aren't the only ones playing it.

My understanding of Condition Zero is that it is mostly meant for single player against bots. I also seem to remember reading that you could have multiple humans playing co-op against the bots. Does anyone know if the co-op against the computer is true about this game? My friends and I like playing co-op against computer bots but there are not many games that support it, so it would be great if this game has that feature.

No way, I'm no noob I've been playing CS since version 3 beta and I still play it now. It is the 2nd best game ever next to Starcraft (IMO).
$29.99 for a rebirth and hours of fun a day is definately worth it. I'm gonna pick it up ASAP!

Well in this game, it's basically the same cs maps (de_dust2, cs_italy) with new textures and a different bot program. You still have the same objectives (plant the bomb, save the hoes) but with a twist like "Kill 5 people with the Aug/Bullpup" or "Pickup a Desert Eagle" etc. It also includes the original CZ (the one that was leaked a year ago) too.

Not worth anything imo :(.

If you want bots, download podbot, start a server, invite all of your friends.

tell that to the guys making $200,000 a year competing in CS tournaments. CS is still the most popular multiplayer game today.

but you'd have to be an idiot to buy CZ.

I think Starcraft probably has it beat.

Hey hdeck...you're a hellraiser? what year are you at UT?

As for cz...from what I've heard it is definitely a huge disappointment. I'm glad I checked up on it before wasting $30 on a face-lifted cs 1.6
