Counter Strike 1.6 Bunny hopping?

A couple of veteran CS players I play with do the "bunny hopping" thing in CS 1.6 and although they don't get crazy fast jumping like in Q3A (trick jumping), they do seem to move faster than if they were simply running. Every site says that bunny hopping was completely disabled after CS 1.4 though. What's the deal? Is the speed increase i'm seeing just an illusion? Or was bunnyhopping not disabled but merely slowed down to a reasonable pace that caps at a certain speed?

I always thought that in the newer CS versions that after a jump I'd hit the ground moving more slowly for a brief period of time.

speaking of jumping, i love how people can jump while you are shooting them... they can't run or move anywhere, but they can certainly jump.

i'm definitely a jumper in firefights. jump-strafe-jump-strafe... i know it looks retarded but quite often it keeps me alive :). i only play hl2 DM lately... i die too quick in CS.

bunny hopping was killed in 1.4

IIRC, Bunny hopping in CS was a bug where, if you jumped crouched while hitting certain directionals, the game would "jump" your position ahead quite a bit (like in dust, you could get to bsite way b4 the CTs could knife running). Like it wasn't a matter of it seeming to be faster, there was no doubt you were clearly going faster than anyone running. You can still hop around like a jack russel terrier, but the game engine will no longer push your location farther than it should.

Yeah, I know a lot of servers back in the day would ban you for bunny hopping, but since playing CS:S lately, I've noticed it doesn't work which is a relief.

I hated when bunnyhopping got taken out of cs :p. Now you slow down a bit when you land :(

you slow down a bit, but isn't it still semi-possible to travel faster than running by doing it?

I'm pretty sure there is no way to do any real bunnyhopping now. I used to be a bunny hopper back in the day, but 1.4 changed the game for me. Up to 1.3 I was crazy about it but after 1.4 I just couldn't do well anymore so I stopped playing regularly.
