Countdown with KO

I don't think I started watching his show till after the '04 election, and I didn't think he was that bad during '06. But what the hell has happened now. Is JP working as his main writer for a night job?

He normally has a couple funny skits and decent guest. But now, at least hide a little bit of the total partisan sided view. It's quickly turning into an hour long hack show.

The best part was hearing Matthews introduce a subject about do the campaigns need to be less partisan; followed by the countdown ad for synchronism between Mccain and Bush.

It also wasn't bad when when KO got mad that Stephanopoulos said BHO had flip flopped on his campaign finance statement (which every guest on hardball also said). Hint KO, if you are the only one that doesn't think so (but calling George stupid was nice) perhaps you are wrong.

if it's any consolation, I read on gawker a bit ago that his days are numbered.

edit: I was wrong... it's Chrs Matthews and on jossip.

Phil Griffin is already setting plans in place to remove Matthews from MSNBC, so it?s unlikely he?d be voting to put Matthews into the Sunday slot (though it?s not really his call, anyhow). Matthews? ratings on Hardball are not enviable. That he?s been labeled a polarizing Obama-lover by most media critics won?t help his case, especially given the recent onslaught of bias claims aimed at NBC?s news divisions, and Russert?s reputation for remaining neutral, which is so important for a show like MTP.

Don't watch it? I find it somewhat ironic that one of the most partisan hacks on this forum is complaining about partisan hacks.

If that stuff is true, I'd expect KO to be next on the hook. When you see the same crap being spewed as Obama defense here by JP and crew and then see it on TV it's rather worrisome that they have lowered their standards so much.

Yes, msnbc is going to axe their biggest money draw because some idiot on a forum doesn't like him.

Would be a mistake getting rid of Mathews. He's getting steadily nuttier but he's still an amazing source of political knowledge and they don't have Russert now. I also suspect he's the one who brings on talented political minds like chuck todd. MSNBC really does have the best political coverage and Mathews is the reason for it.

But dear jeebus he needs to stop making movie references...

Keith Olbermann is host of ?Countdown with Keith Olbermann.? ?Countdown,? a unique newscast that counts down the day?s top stories

The nightly news program ranks the day's top five stories by what will likely be the next morning's hottest topics for discussion. `It's a hard-news broadcast produced and hosted by people who are uncontrollably silly,' quips the wry Olbermann, who also conducts newsmaker interviews.

Well, he's right. Despite what you think, he's drawing in a lot of viewers and his job is far from being on the line. Objectivity doesn't draw in the crowds, extreme bias does. If the right has O'Reilly, Hanity, etc., then I think the left can have Olbermann and to a lesser extent, Matthews.

I agree. And I hate to defend someone by pointing out someone else who's worse. olbermann often goes overboard but there is the need to counter the drivel coming out of fox. And it's too bad that matthews has the occasional, embarrassingly inappropriate, brain fart about women. I think he's the sharpest, shrewdest political mind on tv (whatever that's saying).

That will sure by the thing helping the country, more bias.

I always thought the saying was if you don't want to be the solution at least stop being the problem.

Its funny, I have exactly the same reaction to Lou Dobbs on CNN, which I always used to watch. Ever since he became a one-trick pony (illegal immigration causes all of the world's ills, including probably cancer) he's pretty much unwatchable to me. His show is an unrelenting stream of negativity.

Olbermann at least puts substantial thought and research into the stories he presents. The skits are usually stupidly unfunny. Special guests, as on all shows, are pretty hit and miss.

Who comes and goes is mostly numbers driven, I suppose. It would be a real shame if they dropped Chris Matthews-he is the closest thing to Tim Russert that MSNBC now has. Hardball is too much of a generic political pundits show, though, when they all talk all over each other, each repeating their party line. Matthews, like Russert, is excellent as an occassional commentator.

While I'm at it, please MSNBC, keep showing that ridiculous "Verdict" show at nine. Nothing better to motivate me to jump up, turn off the tube and do something else.

I thought Olby and Matthews were battling it out to take over for Tim Russert.

Granted anybody taking over from Russert would be a step down....but these two seem like a precipitous cliff.

They wont until the election is over. And, to be honest, his show definitely suffers in odd number years unless there's a scandal going on. His coverage during the plame stuff was the best on television as well.

I can understand MSNBC not wanting to deal with his ego, but.... it would be a gaping hole in their political coverage.

You thought that why? Because the NY post said so?

You just lost the credibility you never had

KO last night "I'm not even qualified to replace Tim Russert"

I don't even read the NY Post. So, no I didn't get it there. But, Olby is correct.

I take it you also missed the quoted portion that makes your QFT FTL.

One of us is surely not understanding the other.

(I suspect your sarcasm meter was malfunctioning when you read eskimospy's post - which seems to be the "quoted portion" your're referring to).
