I'll always have respect for a fellow veteran.

Legitimate question: as President he is Commander in Chief of the armed forces. When he is no longer President, and thus no longer Commander in Chief, is he considered a veteran?

Anyone want to give odds on Trump having one of his rallies on the day of McCain's funeral? My guess is a 70% chance.

He never wore the uniform of the armed forces of the United States so no he isn't a veteran. When he was called to service he got multiple bone spur deferments rather than man up like John McCain and many other great leaders did.

So not Generalissimo Trump? He had some harsh duty in Helsenki having to get on his knees to Putin and all that.

The denial among his devotees about that little episode is astounding. Putin was beaming & Trump acted like a whipped dog.

Strong Leadership.

Sadly I read it’s completly legitimate for the President to wear any uniform he chooses since he is commander in Chief.
Literally Trump could have a grand military Parade in May with Putin sitting at his side while wearing a 5 Star General uniform.

Trump already DID say something.
"He's a loser shot down and captured. I like winners".
"He died of cancer. I like people that live and don't get cancer."
Signed. Donald J Trump.
J for jackass. ;)

It'd be six diamond studded stars by Chopard or Cartier. Can't have Eisenhower or any of the other five star rank generals be anywhere near equal to his status as the most awesome leader of all time. ;)

Trump shot down White House staffers suggestion for a more through letter

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...atement-praising-mccain/ar-BBMtLyb?li=BBnb7Kz

Whitehouse flunkie: "Mr. President, here's the tweet we posted for you about McCain's death."
Trump: "Hmm.... It feels like it's missing something."
flunkie: "We could add something in praise of the senator's military service, or his years of public service in government."
Trump: "No, nothing like that... It needs more... me."

If this had happened on President Obama's watch he wouldn't have wasted any time praising the senator for his service and offering support for his family.

Trump did say something. Not about McCain but about how great he is. Yeah what's new I know.

He's at 52% popularity!

Hehe, of course not but he's too dumb and self-centered and he got it backwards. It's 52% unfavorable.

McCain doesn't need the false praise of an idiot like that.

Narcissistic sociopaths have no need nor desire to say anything positive about their enemies and Trump sees McCain as one of them because he's outclassed even by him in death.
On the opposite side of the aisle, McCain and Trump is the exact opposite of each other.. Remember when McCain was running for pres and he took the mic from that "he is an arab" lady and he went on to say that Obama was a decent family man? Fast forward to Trump mocking a disabled man on prime tv.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

to my knowledge the President has said nothing about McCains death.
I realize the President likely hates dealing with emotional stuff because it’s difficult for him but it’s the right thing to do and challenging things make you a better person.
Please post in this thread when the President says something about McCains death.

Another classless move. White House flags returned to full staff. I hope the pettiness towards McCain is what buries Trump. McCain was many things, but above all else he was a selfless servant to this country and deserves, at the very least, respect.

So you know with certainty that protocol was not followed regarding flying the flag at half staff?

The flag is to be flown at half staff the day of death and the following day for members of Congress.

Trump's criteria for supporting anybody is unquestioned one-way loyalty to him personally and how much they suck up to him (e.g. Mike Pence, Devin Nunes), or in the case of foreign autocrats to "say nice things about him" (e.g. Putin).

Once upon a time, for a moment, Trump knew enough about McCain to insult him, but right now, I"m guessing he doesn't have a clear idea of who John McCain actually was, except that McCain wasn't personally loyal to him and now he's getting a lot of coverage just for dying. A couple more days of all McCain all the time, and Trump will do something really stupid to get back on the front page above the fold.

I checked Fox News on way to work this morning. They are lock step in with Trump. Not covering it.
