Only if they tried to kill my family. Something so wrong about ending someone's everything.

I used to know a fellow that claimed you haven't lived until you've killed someone. He said it was better than sex. He was special forces in Vietnam, which may have had something to do with his opinion.

Only if that's the last resort and you are faced with no other option. I'd be running away from or incapacitate the person first if possible.
Then if it escalates that the person has a weapon (gun/knife) and threatens to kill you, then a person has no other choice but to defend themself... kill or be killed.

I would have trouble with doing it, but once I've assessed the situation and know 100% it's the best choice I'd most likely do it. Though it's really hard to tell how I'd react at the heat of the moment.

I guess that's what got him through the war. He embraced the killing, accepted it for what it was. He also told me that when you killed a man it made you feel like a God.

Do we have to field dress our kills so the meat isn't wasted? I'd get a bit queasy doing that.

Nobody knows, until put in a certain situation. I would say that yes, everyone is capable. And by far, most would.

In short, it is exhilarating. Soaring through the skies in my Tie Fighter, the air punctuated with sounds of roaring imperial justice being dispensed upon the hapless rebel scum foolish enough to upend the established peace and order with their treasonous acts of terrorism.

Battlefront has its moments, I don't care what anyone says.

It totally depends on the person and the circumstances. I will hopefully never have to make the choice, but at some point it almost becomes a duty.

If you went back to 1889 Austria and had newborn Hitler in the crosshairs of a sniper rifle, could you pull the trigger? Would you feel like a murdering baby killer or a hero?

Was he legitimately ex special forces or was he a poseur? When I was in high school we had a guy who was "head disciplinarian" who was an SASR Vietnam vet. I later read a book called phantoms of the jungle which stated (named him) that he got the first kill for the Australian SAS in Vietnam. I don't think he bragged about it though.

In fact I dealt with him extensively. Given my propensity to get myself in the shit. He was a very normal well rounded dude. Who probably killed a lot of people.

Working with/in mil, I met a lot of people like you described above. Very quiet regarding past combat stuff. They'd usually talk about it if they knew you and you asked, but didn't advertise it.

Having said that, I also met some batshit crazy motherfuckers that I have no doubt told at least one person a day what their kill count was, so it could go either way.

And to OP: Yes

As long as I can block it from my thoughts I don't really care who dies.

I think that the primal survival instinct would allow the vast majority of people to allow them to end the life of someone who is trying to end theirs if they can physically get the upper hand in the encounter.

quite a lot of people might surprise themselves.

*e2a*
Premeditated murder on the other hand... I'm glad that it seems the vast majority of people would balk at it as long as society doesn't collapse.
