Technically I probably could. I'd probably run out of human food in 1-2 weeks, but I have pets, so if I got desperate I could eat their food if need be.

then they can eat you after you've exhausted all of their chow. :D

Not what I'd call a "month of food" in here, but I'd have no problem rationing what I have. Clean water from the taps? Electricity, heat... even fun-time internet? A month off 60h workweeks would be a dang holiday!!

My place is big enough I wouldn't even feel stir-crazy. :) Skype to still see my family...

Yep. Piece of cake.

Assuming some plague, virus, riot, zombie infestation, alien invasion, etc. happened and you were ordered immediately to shelter in place at your home for 30 days, would you be able to survive?

You cannot leave your house, nor could you have anything delivered to you. But, you would still have access to all utilities, such as water, gas, telephone, electricity, and internet.

I can probably shelter at your place for a month.

Well the answer is simple. You would have no choice but to survive because your brain changes in how you think even to a point where bugs will taste like candy. Your body will burn fat, then muscle..etc before it starts consuming your brain for energy. If a man trapped in a cave with no food can survive for 78 days, then most American's probably have enough body fat to equal that or better. That said, most every healthy person would survive except the elderly, sick...etc. It's also likely there will be a small few cases where a family member will sacrifice themselves for their families assurance of survival as well...but typically, we'd be fine as fine gets in such a situation for only 30 days.

If I killed everyone else around me to reduce consumption of resources, sure. Wait a tick... :hmm: ...that might actually increase resources.

Everyone can come weather this at my place!

One month isn't hard but that's not long enough unfortunately.
Consider a pandemic flu with a VERY high mortality rate. It takes more than a month for that flu to be out of circulation or for a vaccine to be cooked up. More like a year.

Let's hope that doesn't happen.

So, the OP's poll should simply be, "do you have enough food in your house to last a month?" Because, that's what it boils down to. Otherwise, it's simply a vacation with no plans. Probably 6 months worth of food at my house. A large chest freezer completely packed with food, cupboards are nearly full, and a 10 foot long closet that we use for storage - all food, except for about 50 or so rolls of toilet paper, and a few dozen rolls of Bounty.

Yeah but what do you have to drink?

LOL, I have 40 bottles of whiskey, so that should get me through the hard times.

This guys got it figured out.

I make my own wine. I toured quite a few wineries, and have purchased quite a few bottles of wine. I have a 16 bottle wine fridge in the dining room, full, and I have no idea how many bottles of wine on the wine racks, not to mention a couple 6-gallon carboys of wine.

I have access to all the apples I could ever want - and I press them into apple cider and can the cider until I get bored of that. I could drink cider for most of a month without running out.
