Could you run a peltier in reverse as an "air conditioner"?

Has anyone expirimented with using the cold side of their peltier to cool a "heat sink" (making it a cold plate) and then to suck heated air onto it to act as an air conditioner?

I have a couple of peltiers and will soon expiriment with the idea. Just wondering if anybody has experiences with them other than directly cooling cpu's.

If you can get rid of the heat from the hot side, then it will work.

Peltiers are not the best way for high powered cooling as for the same cooling capacity they need about 4x the electricity that a conventional cooler uses.

http://www.melcor.com/ssair.htm has some air conditioner units.

There used to be a beer cooler made like this that you could plug into the cigar lighter of your car. It was one of those gimmicks that barely did anything.
