Hey guys,

Just need a little advice. I'm going to buy a laptop for my step-son today from newegg, but i'm town between these two:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_sp=Homepage_BS-_-P3_34-154-411-_-12132016

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154446

the price is close, but one gives a 970m vs a 1060, and on the 970m one you get 16 gig ram vs 8 and 128gig ssd and 1 tb hd vs just a 1 tb hd on the 1060 one.

My stepson will use this primarily for school, but he does like games as well. I'm leaning toward the 970m one vs the one with the better graphics only because of the 16gig ram and the 128gig ssd, but wanted to get your thoughts.

Thanks!

Get the 1060

Far easier to upgrade the RAM and HDD/SSD. Another 8GB RAM is ~45$ and a decent 256GB SSD can be had around ~65$

I noticed both are 3GB GPUs, if you can find a 6GB 1060 that would be preferred...for modern gaming 4GB is pretty much a minimum.

8 GB is still fine for games, so the RAM upgrade won't be needed right away.

Like EliteRetard says it's much, much easier to upgrade things other than the GPU. The 1060 is as fast as a desktop 1060, while the 970m is not a real desktop 970. And power - heat - noise is better on the 1060. And you get an extra year of "first priority" driver support -- Nvidia puts less effort into optimizing drivers for older GPUs.

Also, 128 GB is a little small for a SSD anyway. 512 GB is about the smallest I'd want for a gaming PC. My 256 GB Steam drive filled up way too fast and I replaced it with a 750 GB so I didn't need to keep deleting and re-downloading games.

8gb is fine to start with..and you can upgrade all of those on the 1060.. you cant upgrade the 760.
