Could you get away with an IBM Model M keyboard at work?

I love typing on my Model M, seems a pity not to use it for the 90% of my typing I do at work...but I'm not sure if the noise would lead to me having to defend myself against irate colleagues with said keyboard ;)

Just in case you've been living under a rock: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_M_Keyboard

I loved that keyboard. When we moved offices, my keyboard got "lost", and I have a stupid quiet keyboard now. Bastards. :(

I have one sitting at a server right next to me (not kidding). It's lasted 12 years now.

I've got a model M here.
It is somewhat annoying to the people in the cubes near me, but too bad.
As an added bonus, I've remapped it to dvorak and removed all the key caps.
I do believe I am the desktop support guy's worst enemy :)

I have a Das Keyboard 2 at home, and I actually prefer it over the Model M, but it's a damn close comparison.

I want the das but it's too expensive.

My coworker had one, and it was LOUD! It 'accidentally' got dropped on the floor and broke during a move...

I probably could, since it's pretty loud in the build out area where I spend most of my day, but I've never used a model m keyboard before... maybe ignorance is bliss :)

I'll agree it wasn't cheap.
My justification is that it ought to last at least 10 years. Also, Amazon had a $10 discount.

I hate loud clicky keyboards. They're annoying as hell. I know for sure if my 125 wpm ass would use one at work I'd fucking annoy the sh!t out of everyone.

i like my g15 >.>...makes keys easy to see at night (if i need to) and has lots of programmable features :D

one thing i never could figure out is why they haven't manufactured a keyboard that wont become ...sticky...if you know what i mean ;) i know they make plastic covers...but come on, who has time for that

I used to have one.
Now I just put a fresh sheet of bubble wrap under my keyboard every morning to simulate the effect.

I have one at work... though right now it's not connected to anything. When I was using it, no complaints were brought to my attention, but I overheard several people grumbling. :D Also, I have a Model M on my home desktop computer, and gave one to my mom for her desktop computer.

When I took my computer on a week-long trip recently, everyone who came into my hotel room (an admittedly huge number) commented on how noisy it is. I personally couldn't care less about the noise, it's the touch that turns me on.

I <3 Model M.

I LOVE the Model M keyboards. People say the sound is annoying, but I like it... plus it has that perfect, crisp feel.
