I say, just play it safe and befriend a Honey Badger. They've been known to kill male Lions by biting off their testicles and check out the one in the video with the snake.

But back on topic. First, you'd have to fight the Flight or Fight instinct to run, because they are larger than regular dogs. Then, try and keep its mouth away from you as much as possible and hope you can hit a vital spot so that it decides it doesn't want to fight you. And of course, if you encounter one by itself, it may be because it's sick or desperately hungry, since they do roam in packs, so you may have an even tougher time becuase the Wolf may be desperate for you to become it's meal or because it's to sick to know when to leave well enough alone.

In Norse mythology, A giant wolf named Fenris fucks up everyone's shit and eats the sun, resulting in the end times.

If god damn VIKINGS had enough respect for these animals to have one end the damn world and bring about an eternal winter and slaughter the gods... then I dunno how many mortals would be up to the task of taking one down unarmed.

I have a 6-1/2 year-old 136lb (at last vet visit in November) Alaskan Malamute, and while he's just a big puppy normally, he's ridiculously strong (and I'm not a little guy at 6'6" 235lb) & ridiculously quick. I wouldn't want to get in a serious tangle with him, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to mess with his wild, lives-by-killing, equivalent.

All about avoiding a bite to critical areas.

I can't honestly say I would definitely beat a wolf in a fight (nor would I like to try, and most wolves wouldn't be up to it, anyway), but if I kept my wits about me I think I would.

A bear or large cat, though, would tear me to shreds regardless. Most unarmed humans can't do enough damage to an angered adult lion, tiger, or bear (oh my!).
Wolves and coyotes are only threats - and very rarely - to adult humans when they are in packs.

I've always wonder what I would do if I was attacked by a bear. They're fairly common around here, I probably can't outrun one, and really the only thing I could do to hurt it would be to poke out its eyes or hopefully hit it in the head with a rock.

Your dog also has about 55lbs on the average wolf

Bahaha, I would pay to see all the people claiming they could beat a wolf get teared apart... You guys watch way too many movies and have no clue how ruthless savage animals are

Humans are like total cripples compared to most animals, we are ridiculously fragile for our size, but I guess its natures way of balancing things... Being the smartest AND the strongest would be way too overpowered

Loled hard at people who described exactly how they would take the wolf down... The reality is the wolf would leap at you so fast youd just shit your pants and scream like a little girl :D

Someone needs to make a Lion thread... I wanna know if anyone here is actually so full of themselves they would claim to able to take one down

While wolves are powerful and not to be underestimated, and I'm sure a great many of us would lose in a one-on-one match unarmed against a wolf, knowledge is power. Human intelligence can beat a single wolf, provided you use your environment to your advantage, stand your ground, and avoid being bit on the neck or face. While we aren't physically strong enough to tangle with larger predators, we can still generate enough force to seriously hurt or even kill a wolf. We do have a size advantage, enough that most solitary wolves won't even consider (normally) an attack on a healthy adult male.

And it helps to be a large adult male.
Unarmed against a lion, though, is suicide. You would need a rudimentary weapon at least (like a spear) to even stand a chance.

From wikipedia:
The victims are generally attacked in a sustained manner around the neck and face, and are then dragged off and consumed, unless the wolves are disturbed. Such attacks tend to cluster in time and space until the offending animals are killed. Predatory attacks can occur at any time of the year, with a peak in the June–August period, when the chances of people entering forested areas (for livestock grazing or berry and mushroom picking) increase, though cases of non-rabid wolf attacks in winter have been recorded in Belarus, the Kirovsk and Irkutsk districts, Karelia and Ukraine. Also, wolves with pups experience greater food stresses during this period. The majority of victims of predatory wolf attacks are children under the age of 18 and, in the rare cases where adults are killed, the victims are almost always women.Non-rabid wolves are able to distinguish between armed and unarmed people, and will typically avoid investigating people who display self confident demeanors typical of being armed.

Surely the OP isn't talking about the "average" wolf, where would the challenge be? He's after something like this.

That's another ATOTer that had it in a choke hold.

If one was in outstanding physical condition, kept their wits about them, and had a bit of luck, then it's a possibility. However, in almost all cases, and yes this includes the people in this thread, I'm sorry but the wolf wins.

I have a 90 pound dog. He's a bit chubby even, and is still 10x as fast as I am even when we're just goofing off. There are no lives on the line when we're playing. He could tear me limb from limb if he wanted to, and a wolf would be far more dangerous. Sorry guys, 99 percent of the time in a fight to the death, the wolf wins.

I would try to kill it, but I doubt I'd be able to. If there was a tree around I'd probably just run to it and climb up and hope help comes by eventually or the wolf decides to leave. At least I don't think wolves can climb trees. Even if they can at least I could try to shake it off by hitting it with a branch I break off. Maybe I could try to stab it or something. But guess that no longer qualifies as bare hands.

Short answer, no.

I do find it funny how everyone here thinks they are badass lol.

The wolf would probably outrun you to the tree, you'd probably have to back up slowly while yelling at it/growling/showing teeth.

It's posts like this that make me think half the internet is just a generic response program, and apparently you haven't been updated in 5+ years.

well in all honesty that is probably the best likelihood of success in this.

Yeah probably, I was thinking more like if the wolf is farther and clearly running towards me and I happen to be right next to said tree. :p It also depends what kind of tree. Ever try to climb a birch or poplar? Near impossible. A pine tree on the other hand is easier. So yeah, lot of variables here.
