Could use an OS suggestion.

Hey everyone.

I have an old Athlon XP 2000+ system with 256 MB of RAM I want to dedicate to a small handful of tasks, and could use suggestions.

What I want to use "Uggy" for:

- dedicated router/firewall (preferably with bandwidth throttling/limiting to certain computers on my home network

- 24/7 BOINC box

- file/printer server

- (optional) web browser

- (optional) game server, if it's powerful enough

I'm VERY new to linux and not the most experienced in networking (I've set up a number of windows networks). Can anyone suggest a good linux distro and/or strong GUI based router/firewall software that's user friendly?

My current network topography: cable modem <------> Uggy's 100Mb NIC <------> Uggy <-----> Uggy's 1Gb <-----> 8 port 1 Gb switch uplink jack <-----> three computers connected to 1 Gb switch

I currently have a little bit of experience with Debian 4 and Ubuntu 8.10. I've not learned how to do manual program installations, but know how to apt-get and use repository based software managers.

Uggy is currently running Ubuntu 8.10.

Suggestions/links to a linux noobie friendly guide appreciated. I've read over the setting up Ubuntu as a router guide on the Ubuntu wiki (labeled as being for intermediate and advanced users), but it's over my head.
