I buy Turkey Hill iced tea. It comes in gallon jugs. the fridge it was in stopped working the other day and I moved them to a working fridge. it wasn't warm but it wasn't very cold either.

not sure how long it was like that.

i also had some small frozen pizzas in the freezer and they thawed out and i put them back in the good freezer.

fast forward a few days and i drink some of that tea and eat 2 of those pizzas.
later that night i get massive stomach pains and feel like i have to crap a lot. later on i end up puking for most of the night.

i felt better later the next day.

could it have been one of those 2 things or do you think i just caught some bug? I had my flu shot about a week ago.

No, the flu shot didn't make you sick a week later. It's possible that the food made you sick. If it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger.

Probably not worth the effort or expense of finding out the cause. Toss out the food, and any opened containers of tea.

well, i just drank some of the tea before i thought of this so if it was that, i'll know soon enough.

i plan on throwing everything else out just in case anyway.

doesn't that usually happen fairly quickly, not a week or so later?

A: Loke was joking
B: Flu shot can't give you the flu.

I thought that was evident enough to attempt a joke.

The flu shot is made from killed influenza virus and can't give you the flu.

Yeah, probably. I'm lucky, I never have problems with that kind of stuff because my stomach is made out of cast iron. I can eat just about anything and not be the least bothered by it.

Oh I thought it was significantly weakened, not killed?

B is false, it can, but it is uncommon. Not relevant to the discussion, though.

Good luck. I think I might worry more about the tea than the pizza. If the refrigerator was starting to go, then it might not have been cold enough to keep things from spoiling. If the freezer had gotten too warm, then it wouldn't be frozen and you would have quickly noticed. Also the pizza also gets cooked; the tea doesn't.

How quickly does iced tea spoil, though?

I would bet on the pizza being bad. They defrost during shipping quite often. Most frozen goods do. And the bacterial population grows each time. The tea should be ok. Toss it if it smells or gets a film on top. I have drank tea thats been out many times.

Iced Tea is sugar and water; a good medium for growing bacteria. It's generally made by boiling (killing off the bacteria) and kept cold so bacteria doesn't grow very fast. If it were kept warm for a stretch of time you could get a nice big microbial zoo going. By now I guess Pontifex will know if the tea went bad.

could have. If it says refrigerate after opening and that Iced tea was opened previously, bacteria could have sufficiently grown.
