Could this be why there are so many 3dfx haters out there?

Hrmm could this be why there are many people that seem to think that 3dfx has done something against them personally?

(Note: this is not really anti-nVidia, I can't help the name of the URL, and I would just like to say for the record I think that nVidia makes a great product, I just happen to think 3dfx, Matrox and ATi also do)

3dfx fell off and made silly products. nVidia took the torch and ran with it.

Lets just say that I hate 3dfx PR, and dislike nVidia PR.
And I realy dislike how 3dfx cant bring us new fetures, unless being one generation behind everyone else, but what I hate the most is how they try to excuse themselves how these fetures arent used. They will never be used unless you bring them to game developers, just somehow 3dfx doesnt get that.

i know it is PRs' job to talk shiz but 3dfx being an underdog now it is sorta natural that they would have more vile crap comin out of their PRs' mouths. you cant blame nobody but 3dfx themselves for that, correct?

I think that's a fair statement, but Derek and Dianne are hardly any better.

Agreed 100%
That's why I have a Voodoo3-2000 now (similar performance to a TNT2 and alot cheaper at the time), and that's why my next video card will very likely be a GF2MX.

Touching story, but well, who sleeps with his new videocard beneath his pillow?!?

BTW I'm a very happy owner of a 3dfx Voodoo 3000 card...

I may own a Nvidia card but at one time had a Voodoo card , as for Bubba well he`s not worth my time except for a laugh, you could put your question the other way "why are there so many Nvidia fans out there".You will get a response either way.

:)

I don't like 3dfx because of Bubba and Alf. If they weren't there, I would be more pro-3dfx. Of course, if they weren't there, two other idiots would take their place.

I must say Alf is ok, he is acceptable, but that just might be because I compare him to Bubba, who is the biggest asshole in the computer industry.

What's wrong with Alf? The worst I've seen from him is some flip flopping on what 3dfx's stance is. It's Bubba that always manages to make me think worse of 3dfx with every interview...it's a shame that he does more of them too. They really should fire him.

No $hit eh? Scott Sellers' interviews are much better and he's a bloody engineer, 3dfx really should let their engineers do their PR for them, they'd be alot better off.

3dfx has held back new features. We would have more 32 bit color games if 3dfx implemented it and we would have T&L if 3dfx implemented. Since so many people have 3dfx cards they cant make games too dependant on features 3dfx dosent provide.

Doomguy:

There's even more people with E-Machines/Compaqs that has integrated video that the gaming industry has to cater to. :)

I can't help the name of the URL

That URL is perfect for the message. ;)

I think the real reason is named Bubba.

Why is is that everytime I hear the name "Bubba" I am reminded of a cave man?

What's wrong with Alf?

Would you believe he called me biased toward nVidia? The 3dfx PR guy was accusing me of being biased! If that isn't "pot-kettle-black" I don't know what is.

3dfx has held back new features.

It's not so much they held it back. It's really their refusal to provide mainstream features on their boards. This includes attempts in the past to stifle competing APIs with Glide, the refusal to adopt OpenGL and use MiniGL instead, and the refusal to support 32 bit colour and large textures. Now in the present we see the same thing. No T&L, no true-trilinear filtering, no asintrophic filtering, no AGP texturing/fastwrites, no GPU.

Sure you may be told by 3dfx and their zealots that these features don't matter, but they do. After all, in the past you have been told that large textures and 32 bit colour are not needed too. But there is a big difference in image quality when you have them.

Heck, I just look for the best gaming board around. If I buy a 3dfx board, I will just end up suffering with the lack of features on it sometime along the track.

Very nice post BFG10k :)

If 3dfx was the only 3d card maker around then we would still be using 16bit, we would still be using PCI, we would still be using 256x256 textures. The gaming industry would have stopped, we would never have to look forvard till next christmas to try out new cards with new fetures. We would still be using modified Voodoo1 chips.

Since Voodoo1, 3dfx has never brought us something new, untill now, T-Buffer, but who is going to use it no one, because developers follow nVidia now. 3dfx had their chance but now they have lost it.

"This includes attempts in the past to stifle competing APIs with Glide"

LOL, how bout that no card could support another cards API (Rendition etc) at the time, and that DX sucked, and I haven't a clue why they didn't include OpenGL (maybe cause they thought it was best to let it stay in the area it was used, in other words, CAD)

now adays, 3dfx supports DX probably the BEST between nVidia and 3dfx (it's the most used API.. could there be meaning to that? nah), and finally supports OpenGL pretty damn good (hey I think the differences between nVidia cards and 3dfx cards in OpenGL is the slight T&L boost, and cause nVIdia's cards seem to be somewhat more powerful, RATHER THEN THE DRIVER).

I agree that they have left us out in the cold in terms of new features, I guess their roadmap was never meant to move so quickly (nVidia is the cause for that, competition is good!).
