As far as I know they are pure viet, but I was told they might be part chinese too.

See, I know chinese people with the surname Chau too, which is another reason I am wondering. Chau is pronounced "Chow"
 
This is my aunt in law, I was just wondering if my inlaws are also chinese. Don't want to ask them directly since it might be taken as being offense.
